A. POSITION PURPOSE
The Applied Sciences Librarian provides specialized research consultation, instruction, and collection development for all undergraduate and graduate programs in the School of Engineering, and the Departments of Mathematics and Computer Science, and Physics. In addition to these subject and functional emphases, the Applied Sciences Librarian participates in and supports first year writing classes, general research services, and library outreach initiatives. This position reports to the Head of Research, Outreach, and Inclusion.
B. ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Teaching, Research Consultation, Outreach and Assessment ( 70%)
- Serves as liaison to all academic departments in the School of Engineering, the Department of Mathematics and Computer Science, and the Department of Physics
- Collaborates with faculty to design and deliver library instruction that best meets the learning objectives of courses in these academic programs.
- Creates instructional support tools, such as online research guides, tutorials, and other digital learning objects.
- Collaborates with other subject librarians and library leaders to assess instructional programs and services.
- Collaborates with faculty to design and deliver library instruction that best meets the learning objectives of Critical Thinking and Writing courses for first-year students.
- Engages with departmental faculty and students (undergraduate and graduate) to support scholarship and research and provide in-depth specialized reference assistance.
- In collaboration with the Business and Data Services Librarian, support library-wide data initiatives, including data literacy instruction.
- Provides in-person and virtual research assistance and consultations to students, faculty, staff, and visitors
- Supports and participates in outreach activities and events organized by Research, Outreach & Inclusion, and the University Library as a whole.

This position is included in the Academic Staff Librarian category. The specific level at which an appointment is made is determined by the successful candidate's level of experience and professional accomplishment. Minimum qualifications for those ranks are :
Senior Assistant Librarian (salary grade 6) : at least two years of professional experience after receiving the MLS; evidence of scholarly ability (e.g., additional coursework, conference presentations, publications) and professional or community service (e.g., active participation in professional society activities, involvement in committee or other service work at previous employers or community organizations) appropriate for an early-career librarian.
Associate Librarian (salary grade 7) : at least five years professional experience after receiving the MLS; evidence of scholarly ability (e.g., additional coursework or advanced degrees, conference presentations, publications) and professional or community service (e.g., active participation in professional society activities, involvement in committee or other service work at previous employers or community organizations) appropriate for a mid-career librarian.
Librarian (salary grade 8) : at least seven years professional experience after receiving the MLS; evidence of scholarly ability (e.g., additional coursework or advanced degrees, conference presentations, publications) and professional or community service (e.g., active participation in professional society activities, involvement in committee or other service work at previous employers or community organizations) appropriate for a senior librarian.
