Summer Interns will be given one-on-one mentorship, professional development training and an hourly pay of $26.31. At the end of the program interns are to prepare and present a Capstone presentation to share their experience and achievements.
About The Operations & Maintenance Environmental Support Unit :
The Operations & Maintenance Environmental Support Unit plays a vital role in supporting Valley Water's environmental programs by managing key contracts and regulatory requirements. The unit oversees contracts related to archaeology, laboratory testing, environmental sampling, rodent control, and stream maintenance. Additionally, it works closely with regulatory agencies, including the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, California Department of Fish & Wildlife, and the San Francisco Bay and Central Coast Regional Water Quality Control Boards, to ensure compliance with environmental standards. The unit also manages the Stream Maintenance Program, which involves permitting and ongoing program management to maintain Valley Water's commitment to environmental stewardship and regulatory adherence.
INTERNSHIP LOCATION STATUS : This position is eligible for a hybrid telework schedule, typically working 40% remote and 60% onsite . For hybrid work, intern must perform their work in the state of California within 150 miles of their primary physical work location located in (San Jose, California) by their start date.
Required License or Certificate
WE LOOK FOR INTERNS WHO ARE :
- Pursuing a major in planning, environmental science / studies, natural resource management, environmental policy, or a related field.
- Interested in understanding how CEQA, the Clean Water Act, Endangered Species Act and other environmental laws are applied to regulate proposed developments and protect natural resources.
- Comfortable synthesizing data and information from a variety of sources and capable of writing about technical subjects.
- Have a passion and desire for a future career in environmental protection, sustainability, or stewardship.
