The Summer 2025 Internship Program will provide interns with training and experience leveraging collaboration tools while either working on-site or hybrid. Summer Interns will be given one-on-one mentorship, professional development training and an hourly pay of $26.31. At the end of the program interns are to prepare and present a Capstone presentation to share their experience and achievements.
About The Pacheco Project Delivery Unit:
The Pacheco Project Delivery Unit falls under the Dam Safety and Capital Delivery Division which is responsible for planning, implementation, and management of the Pacheco Reservoir Expansion Project (PREP). The successful candidate will work on PREP and will get hands on experience while working alongside Valley Water’s engineers and water resource specialists.
INTERNSHIP LOCATION STATUS: This position is eligible for a hybrid telework schedule, typically working 40% remote and 60% onsite. For hybrid work, intern must perform their work in the state of California within 150 miles of their primary physical work location located in (San Jose, California) by their start date.
Required License or Certificate:
Possession of valid California’s Driver License.
WE LOOK FOR INTERNS WHO ARE:
- Pursuing a degree in civil engineering, water resources, environmental planning, environmental engineering, physical sciences, earth sciences, natural sciences or related.
- Have experience collecting data in the field and working with a rowboat or small boat with electric motor.
- Have experience or a desire to work with MS Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
- Ability to problem solve and communicate effectively.
- Critical thinking skills and an attention to detail.
- Have a valid California driver license.
AS AN INTERN YOU WILL:
- Participate in biweekly learning sessions held every other Friday alongside fellow interns, focusing on elevating career readiness and cultivating professional development skills.
- Collect water quality sampling data in the existing reservoir and/or creek sites. This may include driving a pick-up truck and towing a small boat trailer on unpaved roads, hitching and unhitching a boat trailer, and carrying the boat in and out of the water.
- Assist in analyzing complex datasets and interpret results and work with model outputs and data sets related to water resources.
- Support project engineers with managing the project documents.
- Research policies, legislation and regulations and analyzing the impact on the work being conducted.
- Assist evaluating water supply projects, such as projects involving infrastructure or changes to operations.
- Assist in the performance of water supply-demand calculations and modeling.
- Assist the project manager by reaching out to various internal and external stakeholders for communication and coordination purposes.
ELIGIBILITY:
The Summer Internship Program is open to undergraduate & graduate students who are third year and above enrolled in a college/university for Fall 2025.
- Pass a pre-employment screening process, including a background check.
- Proof of enrollment will be required prior to start of assignment.
- Can work full-time (40 hours/week) during the Summer Internship Program
- May 27 – August 15, 2025 (Semester Students)
- June 16 – September 5, 2025 (Quarter Students)
