SUMMARY : Under general supervision, coordinates the utilization of personnel and cost effective operation of the Districts Transportation Department to ensure the safe and efficient transportation of students.

PRIMARY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES :

The job description is subject to change at any time by the employer. Essential duties and responsibilities may include, but are not limited to, the following :

  • Coordinates training regarding bus rules, safety and driving regulations, etc.
  • Directs the scheduling and dispatching of all bus drivers for proper route and event coverage.
  • Directs the scheduling of department employees.
  • Physically inspects bus routes for service and safety purposes. Communicates any incidences occurring on school buses to proper school sites.
  • Collaborates with school site administration to ensure enforcement of bus rules. Responds to school sites regarding student discipline, parental requests, concerns and complaints.
  • Ensures enforcement of bus rules and District and State regulations.
  • Ensures compliance with departmental procedure manual. Reviews and recommends revisions as needed.
  • Coordinates the regular maintenance of all District vehicles and equipment used for transport.
  • Oversees the maintenance of vehicle repair and maintenance records. Ensures availability of supplies, materials and fuel necessary to operate in an efficient and cost effective manner.
  • Oversees the maintenance of tools, parts, and equipment inventory.
  • Ensures preparation of federal, state and other reports as required.
  • Completes other duties as assigned or required.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS :

  • Ability to communicate clearly and professionally in both languages (English / Spanish) required.
  • CDL Certificate preferred
  • Education and Experience :

  • Completion of technical training program or more than two years' experience in the area of logistics or motor pool operations with supervisory responsibilities; OR an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience.
  • Required Knowledge of :

  • Arizona Bus Driver Minimum Standards.
  • Principles of logistics and problem solving.
  • Methods and practices of effective project management, leadership, and supervision.
  • Principles and procedures of recordkeeping, reporting, and retention.
  • Telephone etiquette
  • Practices methods involved in providing quality customer service.
  • District, School Board and Department policies and procedures.
  • Required Skills in :

  • Establishing and maintaining cooperative working relationships with coworkers and other individuals in contact during the course of work; communicating clearly and concisely.
  • Operating a personal computer utilizing standard software such as Microsoft Office and some specialized software; functioning standard office equipment.
  • Administering a department-wide budget.
  • Physical Demands / Work Environment :

  • Work is performed outside and in a standard office environment.
  • Ability to perform duties in adverse weather conditions.
  • Ability to travel and represent the District.
