The Center for Academic Technologies (CAT) offers professional development to faculty and staff, support of the Canvas LMS, and assistance with creating professional instructional videos within a fully equipped media studio.
The Academic Technology Specialist provides instruction, coaching, and customized support to faculty across disciplines in the area of academic technologies that promote student engagement, learning, and success. The Specialist is responsible for delivering training on Learning Management Systems (LMS), as well as other software systems. Additionally, the Specialist will deliver workshops and faculty professional development opportunities that promote student engagement and success through the integration and use of appropriate technologies.
Job Description
Responsibilities and Duties Include :
- Plans, develops, and delivers curriculum and instruction to faculty on the use of different instructional technologies as a tool for face-to-face, hybrid, or online instruction.
- Ensures curriculum and instruction to faculty is aligned with the delivery modality utilized (face-to-face, hybrid, or online).
- Provides follow-up coaching and instructional feedback to faculty that is designed to improve student engagement, success, and learning.
- Plans, develops, and delivers faculty training workshops on academic technologies as needed and requested.
- Analyzes institutional needs related to instructional delivery and student engagement to identify future professional development opportunities for faculty, utilizing metrics such as interactions with faculty, solicited feedback, and data tracking.
- Identifies and reviews cases where there may be a deficit in course design, delivery, or instruction to assess deficiencies and provide recommendations for improvement; refers cases to Assistant Vice President as appropriate.
- Collaborates with the Assistant Vice President and peers in areas of instructional design, video production, and course assessment to make recommendations, provide solutions, and serve as a subject matter expert.
- Stays abreast of new and emerging technologies and maintains knowledge of current practices and trends as a subject matter expert.
- Creates and manages training courses, LMS user accounts, and user enrollments; disseminates technology related information as appropriate.
- Provides technical assistance on LMS and applicable software systems to faculty, staff, and students.
- Collects and analyzes applicable data to prepare reports as it relates to academic technologies and areas of responsibility and develops and participates in assessments.
- Networks with internal and external constituents locally, statewide, and nationally to develop and implement best practices and acquire common fixes for technology issues.
- May be assigned duties related to website maintenance, database coordination, and other appropriate and applicable tasks.
- Complies with all published College Rules, procedures, guidelines, and laws / regulations governing public employees, including but not limited to those related to document retention and destruction, FERPA, and confidentiality.
- Strictly honors the privacy, security, and confidentiality of student records and other sensitive information according to appropriate state, federal, and college regulations, policies, and procedures.
- Provides service excellence through courteous, informed, accessible, and professional engagement.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
Reports to : Assistant Vice President, Academic Technologies
QUALIFICATIONS
Required : A bachelor's degree in an appropriate field with two (2) years of related work experience with learning management systems and / or other software systems, and / or a combination of related education and experience equal to six (6) years is required.
Additional Requirements : A criminal background check will be conducted.
Preferred : A master's degree, PhD, or equivalent in an appropriate field, as well as higher education experience teaching online and using engaging technologies.
