Job Description Summary
Adult Education assists eligible students in developing basic skills that can be used to obtain employment and enable their success in college, the community, and the workplace. Adult Education provides a supportive, nurturing environment with lots of teacher attention; classes that start where the student is now and helps them get to the next level; offers several choices for many classes that prepare the student for real jobs; and ensures inclusion and belonging with classes that meet the needs of all.
The Part-time Instructional Specialist will be responsible for supporting students in the Santa Fe College Adult Education program through academic and career readiness instruction that prepares students for further educational training, GED testing, and careers. They are also responsible for providing intake, retention, and transition activities for students, as well as assisting the Coordinator in compiling data for program entry and state reporting.
Job Description
Responsibilities and duties include :
- Provides intake, assessment, retention, and transition activities for students.
- Supports General Education Development students in preparation for the GED tests and in meeting GED testing requirements.
- Delivers instruction to Adult Education students following curriculum guidelines and career content.
- Collaborates with students and staff in the Integrated Education and Training Program (IET) to meet program guidelines.
- Prepares special reports, summaries, or replies to inquiries by compiling data and statistics from various departmental resources.
- Supports and promotes the college and departmental missions centered on excellence in teaching and learning through quality instruction, curriculum enhancement, and student service.
- Provides students with frequent, timely assessment and clear feedback regarding academic performance.
- Appropriately documents student progress and maintains accurate records, such as attendance, grading, progress records, and achievement of student learning outcomes.
- Attends recruiting events internally and externally to recruit eligible students to the program.
- Participates in marketing and communications for Adult Education, to include creating and dispersing fliers, web content, and more.
- May supervise and evaluate PT instructors, student employees, volunteers, and / or temporary employees.
- Attends professional development workshops and trainings as needed.
- Strictly honors the privacy, security, and confidentiality of student records and other sensitive information according to appropriate state, federal, and college regulations, policies, and procedures.
- Complies with all published College Rules, procedures, guidelines, and laws / regulations governing public employees, including but not limited to those related to document retention and destruction, FERPA, and confidentiality.
- Provides service excellence through courteous, informed, accessible, and professional engagement.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
Reports to : Professor and Coordinator, Adult Basic Education
QUALIFICATIONS
Required : An associate's degree with two (2) years of related experience working with individuals in need of basic academic skills and / or a combination of related education and experience equal to four (4) years.
Additional Requirements : A criminal background check will be conducted.
Preferred : Experience instructing diverse populations and computer skills, as well as previous experience working within an Adult Education program.
