Operate the collection center, in accordance with County Ordinances and all applicable state and federal regulations; provides customers with safe clean environment to dispose of their solid waste.
EXAMPLE OF DUTIES
Ensures customers are given proper guidance and assistance as they deliver their solid waste loads and enforces the provisions of the County’s Solid Waste Ordinance. Maintains data on transfer station uses and practices by customers and daily volumes, and other information as may be required by management.Responds to public inquiries in a courteous manner and resolves questions and complaints in an efficient and timely manner.Determines the need for waste containers to be hauled out to landfill and coordinates with drivers for it to happen.Assists truck drivers with removal of waste roll-of boxes and covering of loads.Operates equipment to compact waste and other practices as determined necessary by supervisor.Maintains radio communication with supervisors, other caretakers and truck drivers.Maintains cleanliness of sites clean by picking up blowing debris and trash performing minor repairs to fences, signs, gates.Ensures proper care and follows safety established safety protocols in the use and maintenance of equipment and supplies; promotes continuous improvement of workplace safety and environmental practices; notifies supervisor of emergency or injury.Opens and closes the site. Performs other relevant duties as requested by supervisor. Coordinates with Utility Worker to perform their work.Provides first aid response as necessary. Knowledge/Skills: Some knowledge of basic emergency and first aid response procedures. Ability to read and write and to understand and follow verbal and written instructions. Ability to effectively communicate with people in a courteous and tactful manner. Ability to safely operate equipment controls; ability to learn basic large equipment operation
SUPPLEMENTAL INFORMATION
Working Conditions: Work is performed outdoors in varied weather conditions with exposure to dust, fumes, airborne particles, allergens, and extreme heat or cold. Work involves high risk and potentially dangerous situations working near hazardous/moving materials, equipment and machinery; exposure to excessive noise; and working with hostile and/or offensive individuals. The use of protective clothing, equipment, devices and materials is required. Work requires the ability to stand, walk, reach with hands or arms; climb or balance; stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl; talk, hear, and smell; clarity of vision at short and long distance; and the ability to lift up to 50lbs. Work schedule may include evening and weekend hours. Caretakers may be required to report to work at one or more of the seven transfer station locations. Employee may also be subject to random testing for drug/alcohol use. Conditions of Employment: Selected candidate must submit to and pass a County paid pre-employment physical and drug/alcohol screening. Additionally, selected candidate must submit to and pass a county paid criminal background screening. Selected candidate must possess and maintain a valid New Mexico Class D Driver’s License as incumbent shall be appointed to drive a County vehicle during the performance of his/her duties. Candidate must obtain and/or maintain all certifications required.
