Position Title: Early Childhood P.E./Music Teacher
Reports To: Principal and/or Assigned Supervisor
FLSA Status: Exempt
Position Summary:
The Early Childhood P.E./Music Teacher is responsible for developing and implementing a comprehensive program that introduces young children to the fundamentals of physical education and music. This role fosters physical development, musical appreciation, and overall social growth in a safe and nurturing environment. The teacher will create engaging, developmentally appropriate lessons that promote movement, rhythm, creativity, and healthy habits in alignment with early childhood learning standards.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree in Music Education, Physical Education, Early Childhood Education, or a related field preferred.
- Experience teaching music and physical education to early childhood students preferred.
- Knowledge of child development and early childhood learning principles.
- Strong classroom management skills and the ability to adapt teaching methods to meet diverse student needs.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
Essential Job Functions:
Curriculum Development & Instruction:
- Develop and implement age-appropriate music and physical education lessons that align with learning standards.
- Utilize a variety of musical instruments, movement activities, and songs to engage children in musical exploration.
- Teach fundamental movement skills, rhythm, pitch, melody, and sports-related activities.
- Create an inclusive and stimulating learning environment that encourages creativity, participation, and enjoyment.
- Integrate technology and multimedia resources to enhance instruction as appropriate.
Student Monitoring & Assessment:
- Observe and assess students’ musical development, physical abilities, and learning progress.
- Provide constructive feedback and positive reinforcement to support student growth.
- Communicate regularly with parents and guardians about student progress and concerns.
Classroom Management & Supervision:
- Maintain a safe and orderly classroom and physical education environment.
- Supervise students during activities, ensuring their safety and well-being.
- Implement positive discipline strategies and encourage respectful interactions among students.
Collaboration & Professional Development:
- Work collaboratively with colleagues, parents, and the school community to support student learning.
- Participate in professional development opportunities to stay current with best practices in early childhood education, physical education, and music instruction.
- Assist with school events, performances, and activities related to music and physical education.
Other Job Functions:
- Organize and maintain music materials, instruments, and P.E. equipment.
- Take necessary precautions to protect students, equipment, materials, and facilities.
- Maintain accurate records in compliance with district policies and state regulations.
- Support students in PreK-1st grade with academic interventions as needed.
- Perform other duties as assigned by the Principal or designated supervisor.

Performance will be evaluated in accordance with the Santa Fe South Schools policy on the evaluation of professional personnel.
