Job Summary:
The High School Head Coach is responsible for leading and managing the school's athletic team, developing student-athletes, and promoting sportsmanship, teamwork, and personal growth. The coach is expected to provide instruction, oversee training programs, plan strategies, and ensure compliance with school and state athletic association policies.
Key Responsibilities:
Coaching & Player Development:
- Design and implement practice plans that enhance skill development, teamwork, and game strategies.
- Teach fundamental and advanced techniques relevant to the sport.
- Assess player performance and provide constructive feedback.
- Foster a positive and competitive team culture.
Leadership & Team Management:
- Lead by example in sportsmanship, ethics, and professional conduct.
- Establish and maintain clear team rules, expectations, and goals.
- Promote discipline, accountability, and academic achievement among student-athletes.
- Support students in balancing academic and athletic commitments.
Game & Season Planning:
- Develop game strategies and adjust based on team strengths and opponents.
- Schedule games, tournaments, and team activities in coordination with the athletic department.
- Analyze game performances to improve future outcomes.
Recruitment & Development:
- Identify and develop talent within the school and feeder programs.
- Encourage student participation in athletics.
- Assist athletes in pursuing opportunities at the collegiate level, if applicable.
Safety & Compliance:
- Ensure player safety through proper conditioning, warm-ups, and adherence to safety protocols.
- Maintain knowledge of and enforce school, district, and state athletic regulations.
- Report injuries and incidents following school procedures.
Community & Parent Engagement:
- Communicate effectively with parents, students, and school staff.
- Represent the school and team positively in the community.
- Organize fundraising events, booster club activities, or volunteer initiatives as needed.
Qualifications & Requirements:
- Previous coaching experience (head or assistant coach preferred).
- Strong knowledge of the sport, rules, and regulations.
- Excellent leadership, communication, and organizational skills.
- Ability to mentor and develop student-athletes.
- CPR/First Aid certification (or willingness to obtain).
- Compliance with school district background checks and hiring policies.
