Summary of the Content and Coaching Coordinator (C3)
The C3 is responsible for driving student achievement in a specific content area by building the capacity of instructional leaders and teachers through the development of content knowledge and research-based practices. As part of this, the C3 works to develop scope and sequences, pacing guides, and curriculum.u Additionally, the C3 will develop assessments then work with teachers and instructional leaders to complete rigorous data analysis and identify frequent action steps to drive student achievement. The C3 will support instructional leaders in leading content teams and providing professional development for teachers. Common coaching activities include modeling, co-planning, co-teaching, observation, and conferencing with teachers and instructional leaders.
A successful C3 is a self-starter that takes initiative to complete tasks with fidelity to meet rigorous timelines and expectations. C3 positions are designed to develop both leaders and teachers to drive student outcomes in a grade band and/or content area. The manner in which this is achieved may vary depending on the action steps for each week; however, the general roles and responsibilities outlined below apply to all C3s. In addition, a C3 must be able to manage their weekly work schedule effectively with minimal oversight by the supervisor. The C3 position is not limited to a 40 hour work week and may require time outside of contract hours to complete the scope of the work.
Major Responsibilities and Duties
- Engage Fully as a Member of the Academic Team
- Design weekly work schedule to match priorities and align with other members of the Academic Team as needed to support sites/priorities
- Attend weekly Academic Team meetings and scheduled planning sessions
- Participate in district leadership meetings to support site leaders and district priorities
- Participate in Conscious Schools training and other professional development
- Facilitate and/or participate in district walkthroughs
- Manage and develop district instructional coach if assigned
- Develop Strong, Collegial Relationships with Instructional Leaders and Teachers
- Implement Instructional Coaching Practices
- Work with site leader to carryout instructional coaching protocols in sites
- Provide individual teachers support through coaching in the form of modeling, co-planning, co-teaching, observing, live coaching, and conferencing
- Support site leader in developing professional development schedules for teachers and support staff
- Support instructional leaders in developing professional development for teachers and support staff aligned to district’s strategic plan and site goals
- Work with instructional leaders to develop and execute effective weekly work schedules
- Collaborate with instructional leaders to set and monitor teacher development goals
- Work with instructional leader to align on development and performance goals for beginning, middle, and end-of-the-year teacher goal setting meetings
- Work with site leader and their manager (CAO/ED) to align on development and performance goals for content-specific instructional leader
- Collaborate with site leaders to align on action steps to support ongoing development of content-specific instructional leaders
- Support instructional leaders in providing feedback on lesson exemplars and teacher-created materials
- Develop and Implement District Curriculum
- Participate in the selection and ordering of curriculum and instructional materials needed to effectively teach district curriculum
- Plan for and implement a systematic roll out of new curricular resources including training, embedded support, and monitoring for fidelity of implementation throughout the first year
- Create scope and sequence, pacing guides, lesson materials, and common assessments
- Monitor and adjust curriculum (pacing and assessments)
- Establish and support instructional leader in setting teacher expectations for any content-specific internalization of materials
- Assist instructional leaders and teachers with curriculum resources, materials, tools, information, etc.
- Support instructional leaders and teachers with planning and pacing of lessons, the development of differentiated lessons, and the selection of best practices to meet the needs of their students.
- Support Instructional Leaders with Content Teams
- Support instructional leaders with planning weekly content team agendas
- Facilitate and support instructional leaders in district protocols during content team meetings (Unit internalization, Lesson building, tuning, and internalization, Teachbacks, Data analysis protocol, Daily Work Review)
- Drive Results through Data-Driven Practices
- Analyze data from all content-specific assessments (common assessments, benchmarks, MAP, etc.)
- Work with instructional leaders to identify action steps for teachers and students
- Assist content team in creating and delivering action plans
- Create and work with instructional leaders to implement interventions to support tiered growth goals as needed
- Collaborate with other district leaders as needed when designing intervention and core curriculum supports for students in Tier 2 and Tier
- Make recommendations and review site recommendations for student retentions based on student data and progress throughout the year
- Develop and Support Instructional Leaders in Implementing the District’s Strategic Plan
- Participate in development of district’s strategic plan
- Lead committee work for strategic planning as assigned
- Support site leader in developing and executing 90-day plans through feedback and ongoing support
- Develop and maintain content-specific handbooks aligned aligned to district’s academic vision
- Create a plan for and provide onboarding for new content-specific instructional leaders that includes weekly O3 meetings
- Support instructional leaders and teachers in implementing content-specific handbooks
- Support site leader with planning and implementing feedback from site performance review and district walkthroughs
- Develop and deliver district-wide professional development
- Design sessions aligned to district’s strategic plan
- Coordinate with district instructional coach or other site-level leaders to design and execute effective PD assigned to lead
- Communicate prework and anticipated outcomes with instructional leaders and teachers at least one week prior to the session
- Support School and District Culture
- Assume Other Tasks Assigned by the Chief Academic Officer or Superintendent
Dedication of Time*
- 210 days (aligned to district calendar)
- 80% of time spent on site-level instructional leadership
- 3 days at sites*
*Time should be spent with content-specific leaders at each assigned site weekly.
- 8-11.5 hours for planning* (depending on Thursday afternoon CLD)
*Additional time for planning PD will be provided when applicable.
- 20% of time spent on district-level instructional leadership
- 1 day in district meetings
