Summary of the District Instructional Coach Position

 

The District Instructional Coach is responsible for driving student achievement in a specific content area by building the capacity of instructional leaders and teachers through the development of content knowledge and research-based practices.  As part of this, the District Instructional Coach assists C3s in the development and implementation of curriculum. Additionally, the District Instructional Coach will work with teachers and instructional leaders to complete rigorous data analysis and identify action steps to drive student achievement.  The District Instructional Coach will support instructional leaders in leading district protocols for teacher development and providing professional development for teachers. Common coaching practices will include modeling, co-planning, co-teaching, observation, and conferencing with teachers and instructional leaders. This is not a supervisory position and does not include the evaluation of colleagues.

 

Major Responsibilities and Duties 

  1. Work in Collaboration with Supervising Academic Team Member
    1. Align weekly work schedule with supervising Academic Team member
    2. Work alongside supervising Academic Team member to develop strong instructional coaching practices aligned to district expectations
    3. Work with sites and instructional leaders as assigned when not alongside supervising Academic Team member
  2. Develop Strong, Collegial Relationships with Instructional Leaders and Teachers
  3. Implement Instructional Coaching Practices
    1. Work with supervising Academic Team member and instructional leaders to carryout instructional coaching protocols in sites
    2. Provide individual teachers support through coaching in the form of modeling, co-planning, co-teaching, observing, live coaching, and conferencing
    3. Support instructional leaders in developing professional development for teachers and support staff in their content area
    4. Support content-specific leaders in running weekly work schedules with fidelity
    5. Collaborate with instructional leaders to set and monitor teacher development goals 
    6. Support instructional leaders in preparing for beginning, middle, and end-of-the-year teacher goal setting meetings
    7. Support instructional leaders in providing feedback on lesson exemplars and teacher-created materials
  4. Assist C3 in Developing and Implementing District Curriculum
    1. Support C3 in developing scope and sequence, pacing guides, lesson materials, and common assessments
    2. Monitor and adjust curriculum (pacing and assessments) 
    3. Assist instructional leaders and teachers with curriculum resources, materials, tools, information, etc. 
    4. Support instructional leaders and teachers with planning and pacing of lessons, the development of differentiated lessons, and the selection of best practices to meet the needs of their students.
  5. Support Instructional Leaders with Content Teams
    1. Support instructional leaders with planning weekly content team agendas
    2. Support instructional leaders and co-lead district protocols during content team meetings–Unit Internalization, Lesson Building, Lesson Tuning, Lesson Internalization,  Teachbacks, Data-Drive Instruction (DDI), Daily Work Review (DWR)
  6. Drive Results through Data-Driven Practices
    1. Analyze data from all content-specific assessments (common assessments, benchmarks, MAP, etc.)
    2. Work with instructional leaders to identify action steps for teachers and students
    3. Assist content team in creating and delivering action plans
    4. Conduct daily work review with instructional leaders and teachers consistently
    5. Work with C3 and instructional leaders to create interventions to support tiered growth goals as needed

 

  1. Support Academic Team and Instructional Leaders in Implementing the District’s Strategic Plan
    1. Participate in committee work for strategic planning as assigned
    2. Support instructional leaders in executing 90-day plans 
    3. Support instructional leaders and teachers in implementing content-specific handbooks 
    4. Support instructional leaders in implementing feedback from district walkthrough
  2. Engage in Professional Learning for Ongoing Development
    1. Participate in a portion of Academic Team meetings
    2. Participate in Conscious Schools training and others as assigned
    3. Participate in district walkthroughs when applicable
    4. Take initiative to grow and study as an instructional leader
  3. Develop and Deliver District-Wide Professional Development as assigned
  4. Support School and District Culture
  5. Assume Other Tasks Assigned by the Chief Academic Officer

 

Dedication of Time

  • 210 days (aligned to district calendar)
  • 90% of time spent on site-level instructional leadership
    • 3 ½ to 4 days at sites
    • 1 day of planning in district office*

*Additional time for planning PD will be provided when applicable.

  • 5-10% of time spent on district-level instructional leadership*
    • Up to ½ day in district 

*When not engaged in district PD, this time will default to site work.
