Job Description
Position Title: Elementary Music Teacher
Reports To: Principal and/or Assigned Supervisor
FLSA Status: Exempt
Position Summary:
The Elementary Music Teacher is responsible for developing and implementing a comprehensive music education program that fosters musical appreciation, creativity, and foundational skills in young learners. This role involves engaging students in age-appropriate music instruction, including singing, rhythm exercises, movement activities, and instrument exploration. The teacher will create a positive and inclusive learning environment that supports student growth in alignment with music education standards.
Qualifications:

Bachelor’s degree in Music Education or a related field preferred.

Valid teaching certification in music educationpreferred.

Experience teaching elementary music preferred.

Knowledge of child development and elementary-level music pedagogy.

Strong classroom management skills and the ability to adapt teaching methods to meet diverse student needs.

Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
Essential Job Functions:
Curriculum Development & Instruction:

Develop and implement engaging, age-appropriate music lessons that align with learning standards.

Teach fundamental music concepts, including rhythm, melody, harmony, pitch, and notation.

Introduce students to a variety of musical instruments, including percussion, recorder, and other age-appropriate instruments.

Foster a love of music through singing, movement, and interactive activities.

Integrate technology and multimedia resources to enhance instruction as appropriate.
Student Monitoring & Assessment:

Observe and assess students’ musical development and learning progress.

Provide constructive feedback and encouragement to support student growth.

Communicate regularly with parents and guardians about student progress and concerns.
Classroom Management & Supervision:

Maintain a safe, respectful, and engaging learning environment.

Supervise students during activities, ensuring their safety and well-being.

Implement positive discipline strategies and encourage cooperative learning.
Collaboration & Professional Development:

Work collaboratively with colleagues, parents, and the school community to support student learning.

Participate in professional development opportunities to stay current with best practices in music education.

Plan and execute school performances, concerts, and other musical events.
Other Job Functions:

Organize and maintain music materials, instruments, and classroom resources.

Take necessary precautions to protect students, equipment, materials, and facilities.

Maintain accurate records in compliance with district policies and state regulations.

Perform other duties as assigned by the Principal or designated supervisor.
