INSTRUCTIONAL ASSISTANT - AFTER SCHOOL PROGRAM
The purpose of this examination is to establish an eligibility list for any current and future pending vacancies along with substitutes for this classification.
Part-time vacancies are usually 20 hours per week. We will also obtain future Instructional Assistant-After School Program substitutes from this recruitment.
There are also bilingual positions available under the classification which would have a salary range of $20.92 - $25.42. Additional bilingual testing is required.

Basic Function and Essential Duties
BASIC FUNCTION :
Under the direction of the ASPIRE Coordinator, assist in the overall activities of school-aged children in an assigned after-school program; assist in planning and implementing activities; monitor children in classroom and outdoor activities.
REPRESENTATIVE DUTIES :
ESSENTIAL DUTIES :
Provide a safe, caring, positive and interesting learning environment for students in an assigned after-school; prepare materials and supplies for daily activities; take attendance.
Lead and supervise students in various classroom activities including games, crafts, projects and related activities; supervise students in outdoor activities.
Serve as role model and develop positive social behaviors of children; reinforce positive behaviors as appropriate.
Ensure the health and safety of students by following health and safety practices and procedures; prepare incident reports as required; assist in maintaining a clean and orderly environment.
Perform a variety of clerical duties including typing, duplicating, recording attendance and maintaining assigned records; prepare bulletin boards.
Operate various office, audio-visual, and playground equipment as assigned; operate a computer to update student information as assigned; answer telephone calls and direct inquiries to the appropriate personnel.
Assist children with homework assignments; explain questions and enhance student understanding of homework as needed.
Communicate with parents regarding behaviors of students.
Escort children to and from classrooms and restrooms as assigned.
OTHER DUTIES :
Perform related duties as assigned.
Assist with basic First Aid.
For bilingual positions :
Speak and interpret English and a designated second language.
Education and Experience
Any combination equivalent to : graduation from high school and one year experience working in a school or child care program or recent volunteer experience in a similar program.
LICENSES AND OTHER REQUIREMENTS :
Special Qualifications upon hire for positions at a school site that is supported by Title I funds pursuant to the "No Child Left Behind Act of 2001" :
Completed at least 48 semester units of study at an institution of higher education (college level)
Obtained an associate's (or higher) degree
Met (pass) an assessment that demonstrates knowledge of and the ability to assist in teaching reading, writing, and mathematics OR reading, writing, and mathematics readiness.
