Santa Rosa Junior College is currently accepting applications on a continuous basis to establish a pool for associate faculty assignments. Associate assignments may be temporary, part-time and/or on-call and may be immediate or as needed.Â

Compensation/Benefits

 Assignments are made on a part-time, hourly basis. A part-time faculty assignment may not exceed a total of 67% of an annual full-time assignment.

  • Starting Hourly Rate: Please see the hourly salary schedules or contact Human Resources for more information.
  • Salary placement is based on academic background, vocational experience, and teaching experience (depending on discipline) and as documented in application materials. Initial Step placement will be at Step 1 pending evaluation of experience as outlined in the AFA Contract Article 27(Download PDF reader).Â
  • Compensation for assigned classes is paid over the duration of the assignment.Â

Sick Leave Accrual: Associate faculty accrue sick leave on a pro-rated basis. Additional information can be found in Article 18 of the AFA Contract.

Retirement: SRJC offers CalSTRS Defined Benefit, CalSTRS Cash Balance and Social Security as Associate Faculty retirement options. Eligibility for each plan is determined based on prior membership status with CalSTRS.

  • Provide excellent instruction and faculty support to students, which may include evening, weekend, online or hybrid and/or off-campus assignments. This position will be taught in an online environment.
  • Provide academic assistance and related services to students during scheduled office hours.
  • Demonstrate sensitivity to and understanding of diverse academic, socioeconomic, cultural, disability, gender identity, sexual orientation, and ethnic backgrounds of community college students, faculty and staff
  • Maintain currency in field(s) of expertise.
  • Associate faculty focus primarily on providing instruction and/or student services.Â
  • Associate faculty are typically not required to participate in District or department service such as committee work, evaluations, student learning outcomes assessment, and hiring committees, but may be asked to perform these services for additional compensation.Â

SELECTION PROCESS

 If the department has an immediate need to add candidates to their pool, they will review applications. If the department does not have an immediate need to add candidates to their pool, applications remain in the queue for consideration until the need arises, or for up to one year. If selected, candidates will be invited to an interview with a Screening and Interviewing Committee. Selected candidates who are not given an immediate assignment will remain in the pool for four years.Â

Department Description

SRJC Public Safety is located at the Public Safety Training Center in Windsor. The disciplines of public safety are Administration of Justice, Fire Technology and Emergency Medical Care and the majority of these courses are offered at the center. The Administration of Justice degree program is located at the Santa Rosa campus with some courses being offered at the Petaluma Campus (the Fire Technology degree program is primarily located at the Petaluma Campus). Â In addition, the In-Service/Correction courses are offered at the Public Safety Training Center.

The Department of Public Safety offers over 200 sections of public safety educational programs annually for approximately 6,000 students taught by 8 contract faculty and almost 200 part time (associate) instructors. This program offers 14 career certificates as well as three degree programs in each of the public safety disciplines. The department is looking for motivated faculty to join its award winning team.

Required

Bachelor's degree AND two years of full-time (or part-time equivalent) experience in the discipline; OR an Associate's degree; AND six years of full-time (or part-time equivalent) experience in the discipline; OR the equivalent; OR a fully satisfied (Life) California Community College Instructor's Credential in Health and Physical Care Services and Related Technologies

Requires a sensitivity to, and understanding of, the diverse academic, socioeconomic, cultural, disability, and ethnic backgrounds of community college students.

Experience with educational software relevant to discipline.

CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT

  • Successful applicants must provide proof of eligibility to work in the United States.

  • Must be willing to work on-site as determined by the department (the Sonoma County Junior College District does not offer 'remote only' assignments).
  • Within 6 months of employment, must complete required District trainings on topics such as Sexual Harassment and Abusive Conduct Prevention, and Title IX.
