The District Police Department at Santa Rosa Junior College is seeking qualified individuals with demonstrated customer service skills to join an outstanding team of faculty and staff to provide high quality services to our district, our community, and most importantly to our students.Â
Under general supervision, perform law enforcement and crime prevention work including patrol of assigned areas on or about District properties or facilities utilized by the District; serve warrants and make arrests; perform criminal investigations including the preparation of complex criminal reports, and perform extensive follow-up with other law enforcement agencies and the District Attorney's Office; ensure the safety and security of District properties or facilities utilized by the District; and provide assistance to students, faculty and staff; and perform related work as required.
This is a regular, full-time (40 hours/week, 12 months/year) position. Due to the unpredictable nature of public safety work, may be assigned to work various shifts, including evenings, weekend, and graveyard shifts and holidays. Appointments are contingent upon funding and Board approval.

The California Commission of Peace Officer Standards and Training (POST) accredited this Police Department in 1988. SRJC has approximately 20,000 students, faculty, and staff a semester combined with multiple sites across Sonoma County.

EDUCATION

- Salary Range: $7,555.00 -$9,180.00 per month (24/25 Classified Salary Schedule); maximum initial placement at mid-range, which is $8,327 per month (placement within this range is based on assessment of previous experience as documented in application materials). Â

- Leave/Holiday Time: Full-time classified Unit members earn 8 hours of sick leave and start off accruing hours of vacation for each month worked (accrual rate increases after first year of employment and rates are pro-rated for part-time employees). - May be Eligible: Bilingual premium, uniform allowance, POST intermediate and advanced certificate professional incentives, 5-7% shift differential, 5-20% longevity pay for 10 or more years.

- Patrols District property, surrounding areas, and facilities utilized by the District by vehicle, bicycle, or on foot to deter, locate, discover, and apprehend persons committing crimes.Â
- Responds to calls related to the protection of life and property, traffic incidents, and other emergencies.Â
- Practices de-escalation, crisis intervention, communication, defensive tactics, arrest techniques and other alternatives to assess situations fairly and resolve conflict reasonably at a level proportional to the offense and the totality of the circumstances.Â
- Reprimands, detains, cites, and/or arrests members of the public for violations of the law. Transports subjects to detoxification, mental health, or medical facilities, or books into jail. Provides mutual aid and assistance to other law enforcement agencies as requested and/or circumstances dictate. Serves warrants and subpoenas.Â
- Conducts preliminary and follow-up investigations of disturbances, criminal incidents, hazardous incidents, vehicle accidents, and deaths. Collects and maintains evidence, interrogates suspects, and interviews victims, complainants, and witnesses.Â
- Prepares criminal reports, responds to subpoenas, and testifies in court.Â
- Operates the California Law Enforcement Telecommunications System (CLETS) and other law enforcement computer systems.Â
- Manages caseload of registered sex offenders, including initial registration, follow up, and coordination with the California Department of Justice.Â
- Provides traffic and crowd control, responds to life threatening situations, and provides non-police related support services.Â
- Implements district emergency preparedness plan including emergency evacuation plans. Secures perimeters and coordinates fire, medical, communication, utilities, and other emergency services.Â
- May collect and transport monies from parking permit machines and meters. May perform minor repairs to parking meters and permit machines.Â
- Responds to questions from students, employees, and the general public regarding laws, ordinances, incidents, or services.Â
- Prepares and maintains records, reports, and files. Provides documentation to appropriate state, federal, and local agencies.Â
- May be given special assignments including cadet coordinator, communications training or field training officer, certified instructor, and/or detective.Â
- May provide training for department staff in such areas as defensive tactics, use of firearms, defensive driving, crowd control, use of chemical agents, and other specialized functions.Â

- Must meet state guidelines for minimum peace officer selection standards.Â
- Must successfully complete an extensive background investigation.Â
- Must meet the following POST Commission recommended peace officer standards: Â Completion of approved California basic Peace Officer's Standards & Training (POST) Academy.Â
- Completion of 16 weeks of Field Training and obtain POST Basic Certificate within one year of initial employment.Â
- Â Physical and psychological standards, which include specific vision, hearing and other sensory requirements.Â
- Â Maintenance of required California POST standards to include firearms range, defensive tactics, and criminal law.Â
- Â Ability to operate a vehicle following POST recommended procedures.Â
- Â Possession of current POST First Aid and CPR training.Â
- Must satisfactorily complete the Department of Justice (DOJ) California Justice Information Systems (CJIS) certification for the California Law Enforcement Telecommunications System (CLETS) within 2 months of hire.Â
- Must be able to move heavy objects such as equipment (50 lbs.), and lift and carry injured or intoxicated persons short or long distances while performing duties.Â
- Constant exposure to situations, which may be dangerous, or life threatening.Â
- Required to wear various uniforms and body armor, carry and use approved firearms and weapons within the confines of the law in a safe and responsible manner.Â
- This classification requires the use of a personal or District vehicle while conducting District business. Must possess a valid (Class C) California driver's license and acceptable driving record.Â
