Circulating Nurse, Operating Room

Ambulatory surgery center in Santa Rosa seeking part time and PRN Circulating RN's. Must have MINIMUM of 6 months Intra-operative experience and ACLS certification. Flexible part-time schedule with no weekends, holidays, or on-call requirements.

Job duties include:

Preoperative Preparation:

• Reviewing patient charts and medical histories to ensure accuracy and completeness.
• Verifying patient identification, surgical site, and procedure to prevent errors.
• Collaborating with the surgical team to prepare the operating room and necessary equipment.
• Ensuring all necessary supplies, instruments, and medications are available and properly sterilized.

Patient Advocacy:

• Communicating with patients and their families to address any concerns or questions.
• Providing emotional support and reassurance to patients before surgery.
• Advocating for patient safety and ensuring their comfort throughout the surgical process.

Intraoperative Assistance:

• Assisting the surgical team in donning sterile attire and maintaining a sterile field.
• Managing surgical equipment and instrumentation, including passing instruments to the surgical team as needed.
• Documenting surgical events, including time stamps, medications administered, and any complications encountered.
• Monitoring the patient's overall condition during surgery.

Collaboration and Communication:

• Collaborating with surgeons, anesthesiologists, surgical technologists, and other healthcare professionals to ensure efficient and safe patient care.
• Communicating effectively with team members to anticipate needs and address any issues that may arise during surgery.
• Providing accurate and timely documentation of patient care activities in medical records.

Postoperative Care:

• Assisting with transferring the patient to the post-anesthesia care unit (PACU) or other designated recovery area.
• Handing off pertinent information to the PACU staff to ensure continuity of care.
• Participating in postoperative debriefings to review the surgical procedure and identify opportunities for improvement.

Compliance and Safety:

• Adhering to established protocols, policies, and regulatory requirements to maintain a safe and compliant surgical environment.
• Participating in quality improvement initiatives and ongoing education to enhance patient outcomes and safety.

Overall, circulating nurses play a critical role in facilitating safe and effective surgical care by coordinating various aspects of patient care before, during, and after surgery, while maintaining a focus on patient safety, comfort, and well-being.

Pay: $65.00 - $72.00 per hour

Expected hours: 24 – 32 per week
