What are the responsibilities and job description for the Medical Assistant Float - CA Urology position at Sante Health?
This is not a remote position.
Sante Health System is encouraging all Medical Assistants in the Fresno, CA area to apply to join our team. We are currently looking to fill one full-time position at California Urology. In this medical assisting float position, you would provide top-notch customer service both in-person and over the phone and assist our physicians with delivering primary health care to our patients. Patient care rotation activities may include front office and outgoing referrals coverage.
REQUIREMENTS
- High school diploma/GED equivalent
- Graduation from an accredited program for Medical Assistants
- Certification from the American Association of Medical Assistants preferred
- Minimum of one year of related experience.
- Prior experience with an EHR system and scheduling preferred
- Bilingual Spanish is a plus

MAIN ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
- May perform selected nursing and administrative duties, such as referrals and authorizations.
- Prepare patients for examination and treatment. Take patient vital signs.
- Prepare exam and treatment rooms with necessary instruments and supplies.
- Prepare and maintain supplies and equipment for treatments, including sterilization.
- Assist physicians in preparing for minor surgeries and give injections
- Screen telephone calls for referral to physician or provider.
- Relay provider communications to patients by phone or mail.
- Provide general information on departmental policies and procedures.
- Maintain patient files, records and other information.
- Compile and condense technical and statistical data for reports and records.
- Attend required meetings and participates in committees as requested.
- Participate in professional development activities and maintain professional affiliations.
- Maintain patient confidentiality in compliance with HIPAA regulations.
- Follow all MA competencies.
DUTIES WHEN COVERING OTHER PATIENT CARE DUTIES AS NEEDED
- Greets patients and visitors in a prompt, courteous and helpful manner.
- May assist with preparing daily batching for the business office and/or bank deposits as requested.
- Collects money for copays and prior balances
- Checks in patients and verifies and updates necessary information in the medical record. Assists patients with ambulatory difficulties.
- Follows office scheduling policies.
- May file charts, coordinate lab work, physician's report, etc.
- May sort and deliver mail, medical records, and other correspondence.
- May assist in pharmacy refill requests.
- Maintains work area and lobby in neat and orderly manner.
- Schedules patient appointments with specialists.
- Schedules all procedures and radiology exams.
- Arranges for all appropriate information to be sent to the specialist facility prior to the patient's scheduled appointment date and time.
- Contacts patient with the appointment time, place, etc.
- Contacts patients' insurance company to obtain benefit information and any required prior authorizations.
- Records all referral information in patient's notes in Intergy.
- Provides general information on insurance policies and procedures.
- Remains current on insurance benefit changes.
- Light housekeeping.
