OVERVIEW:
JOB SUMMARY:
The Infection Prevention/Staff Development Nurse (RN) is responsible for managing and implementing the infection control program and staff development initiatives within a skilled nursing facility. This role involves developing infection prevention strategies, conducting staff training, and ensuring compliance with regulatory standards. The nurse will work closely with the healthcare team to promote a safe and educated environment for both residents and staff.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Infection control surveillance in Skilled Nursing environment
- Infection Prevention/Staff Development (RN) will manage Immunization tracking
- Staff and resident education
- Partner with DNS for infection control projects
- Member of the quality assurance committee
- Maintain comprehensive infection prevention and control policies and procedures in compliance with the current state, federal, and local regulations.
- Conduct regular surveillance of infections within the Skilled Nursing environment, including monitoring, tracking, trending and reporting infection data amongst staff and residents.
- Investigate infection outbreaks, determine causes, and implement measures to control and prevent recurrence.
- Prepare and submit infection control reports to regulatory agencies and facility management as required.
- Conduct regular risk assessments to identify potential infection hazards within the facility.
- Implement and oversee infection control measures to mitigate identified risks.
- Collaborate with the facility’s healthcare team to develop resident-specific infection prevention plans.
- Conduct regular audits to ensure adherence to infection prevention protocols.
- Address non-compliance issues promptly and effectively.
- Assist in the development and implementation of infection control components of the facility’s emergency preparedness plan.
- Provide infection control guidance during outbreaks or public health emergencies.
- Develop, implement, and maintain a comprehensive staff development program.
- Conduct orientation sessions for new hires, ensuring they understand infection control practices and facility policies.
- Provide ongoing education and training to staff on infection prevention, clinical skills, and other relevant topics.
- Maintain records of all training sessions and continuing education activities.
- Implement improvements to training programs based on evaluation results and emerging best practices.
- Foster a culture of continuous learning and professional development within the facility.
- Other Duties as Assigned
REQUIREMENTS:
- Current RN license in the state of practice
- Certification in Infection Control preferred or willingness to obtain certification within a specified timeframe.
- Experience in infection prevention and control, and/or staff development, preferably in a skilled nursing or long-term care facility.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
