What are the responsibilities and job description for the Psychologist, Early Learning Center position at SAR Academy & SAR High School?
SAR Academy, a Modern Orthodox co-educational day school in Riverdale, NY, is seeking a dedicated and passionate School Psychologist for the 2025-2026 school year in our Early Learning Center (Nursery-Kindergarten). As part of SAR’s guidance team—a collaborative group of psychologists and social workers—you will play a key role in implementing best practices within our school setting. This is a full-time position in the Early Learning Center working with children ages 2-6.
Our guidance team works closely with teachers, administrators, and families to support students' social-emotional development and overall well-being. We are looking for a professional who fosters curiosity, creativity, and a love of learning in young children while cultivating a warm, inclusive, and engaging school environment.
Responsibilities:
- Provide direct clinical services to students, including 1-on-1 counseling and social skills groups to support their emotional and behavioral development.
- Consult and collaborate with teachers, faculty, parents, and outside providers to address students' academic, social, emotional, and behavioral needs.
- Work closely with the Pisgah team to create individualized student goals.
- Conduct functional behavior analyses and develop/implement behavioral intervention plans in collaboration with teachers and behavior therapists.
- Participate in case conferences with administrators and faculty to review student progress and support strategies.
Interpret rating scales and other screening/evaluation measures to inform intervention planning.
- Collect and analyze student-level data to support class placement and behavioral/learning decisions, as well as systemic data for program planning and evaluation.
- Serve as a liaison to community clinicians and collaborate with mental health professionals across school divisions.
- Support teachers inside and outside of the classroom in implementing best practices for student social-emotional growth.
- Communicate and collaborate with parents and outside psychologists, ensuring the alignment of school-based and external interventions.
- Participate in Department of Education (DOE) meetings and advocate for student support services.
- Provide crisis intervention at the student and school-wide level as needed.
- Co-develop and facilitate parent and teacher workshops on relevant child development and mental health topics.
Qualifications:
- PhD/PsyD or in School Psychology or LCSW preferred.
- Expertise in the social, emotional, and cognitive development of young children, particularly in early childhood settings.
- Experience with play therapy principles, behavior planning, teacher and parent consultation, parent training, and psychological evaluations.
- Successful experience teaching social-emotional curriculum, fostering early executive functioning skills, and implementing social problem-solving strategies.
- Familiarity with individualized approaches to teaching and learning and the ability to interpret neuropsychological and psychoeducational evaluations to inform interventions.
- Strong interpersonal skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively within a multidisciplinary team of educators, parents, and outside professionals.
