Position Overview:
Delta Dental Plan of Michigan is seeking a Performance Test Engineer to lead performance testing and monitoring efforts in a modern, cloud-native environment. The successful candidate will design and execute comprehensive performance test strategies, collaborate across teams to optimize application performance, and contribute to a culture of continuous improvement. This hybrid role is based in Okemos, MI.
Key Responsibilities:
- Design and lead comprehensive performance testing strategies to validate system behavior under load, stress, and peak conditions.
- Develop, configure, and optimize test scripts in JMeter, simulating real-world usage scenarios and workload patterns.
- Leverage Dynatrace to monitor performance metrics (response time, throughput, resource utilization) and diagnose issues in real time.
- Integrate performance testing and monitoring tools into CI/CD pipelines using Jenkins, enabling early detection of performance issues.
- Conduct capacity planning and infrastructure analysis to optimize resource allocation and scalability in Kubernetes environments.
- Use Bitbucket for version control of scripts and configurations, promoting collaboration and traceability.
- Partner with development, DevOps, and operations teams to identify performance bottlenecks and recommend tuning or architectural enhancements.
- Deploy, monitor, and troubleshoot applications in Kubernetes clusters, including autoscaling and resilience tuning.
- Generate performance dashboards and reports tailored to stakeholders, including senior leadership and engineering teams.
- Conduct root cause analysis using Dynatrace and other tools to pinpoint issues at the service/component level.
- Promote performance engineering best practices across the organization to drive quality and system reliability.
- Document test strategies, configurations, tuning guidelines, and lessons learned for team knowledge sharing.
- Participate in PI planning sessions to define performance goals, document dependencies, and set realistic testing timelines.
Required Qualifications:
- Bachelor s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field.
- Minimum 7 years of experience in performance testing, monitoring, and evaluation.
- At least 5 years of experience in application development.
- Strong hands-on expertise with JMeter and performance test scripting.
- Proficient in Dynatrace or similar APM tools for diagnostics and monitoring.
- Experience with performance tuning and autoscaling in Kubernetes environments.
- Familiarity with Bitbucket and Jenkins for version control and CI/CD integration.
- Advanced understanding of SQL, Linux, and database performance analysis.
- Strong analytical and communication skills; ability to work independently and resolve complex issues.
