Part of the Boys & Girls Club family, the House has a 100-year history of providing out-of-school and summer programming to kids ages pre-K to 18. Our North Shore facility hosts our summer day camps. Role Description
This is a temporary on-site role located in Pittsburgh, PA for a Summer Day Camp Counselor at Sarah Heinz House. The counselor will be responsible for leading, running and supervising camp activities, engaging with campers in arts & crafts, promoting communication and positive youth development, and providing childcare support and behavior management.
PRINCIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Ensure safety of children at all times
- Strive to develop positive values and ethical behavior in members through teaching, discussion, and modeling.
- Lead age-appropriate activities, including arts and crafts, games, storytelling, and outdoor play.
- Follow the daily camp schedule, ensuring smooth transitions between activities, meals, and rest periods.
- Adapt activities to meet the developmental needs and interests of campers.
- Provide constant supervision and ensure the safety of campers during all camp activities.
- Promote a positive and inclusive atmosphere that encourages participation and cooperation.
- Support and administer policies and traditions of Sarah Heinz House
- Advise and provide informal guidance to Heinz members.
- Support and assist with the implementation of programs.
- Attend and actively participate in all trainings and staff meetings.
EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE/CERTIFICATION REQUIREMENTS
- Previous experience working with children and youth in a camp, childcare, or educational setting required.
- High school diploma or equivalent; college coursework in education, child development, or related field is a plus.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to work collaboratively in a team environment.
- Enthusiasm for creating a positive and memorable camp experience for young children.
- Required Clearances: FBI Fingerprint, National Criminal Background Check, National Sex Offender Registry, PA Criminal Background Check & PATCH
