Job Description
Sarah Lawrence College invites applications for a half-time visiting position in History of Early Modern European Art in a Global Perspective (ca. 1400-1750) for the 2025-2026 academic year. The candidate will teach two courses, one in the fall and one in the spring, on any topics in the histories of European art in any medium. We seek candidates who will situate European art and architecture within histories of global trade networks, colonialism, enslavement, expansion, and empire, engaging discourses of the Global Mediterranean, and / or the Transpacific and Transatlantic Worlds.
Sarah Lawrence is a co-educational liberal arts college with a unique pedagogy, and candidates must have a strong commitment to undergraduate teaching and to the development of the research, writing and analytical skills of their students. Lecture courses (capped at 45 students) contain either two weekly lectures and bi-weekly “group conferences” (15 students at a time) or one longer weekly lecture and weekly “group conferences” (15 students at a time). Faculty teaching seminars (capped at 15 students) are required to meet individually with students biweekly for “conference,” which entails guiding the student through a semester-long independent research project. Funding is available for field trips to museums in the New York City area.

Required Qualifications Applicants should either be ABD or hold a Ph.D. in Art History or a related interdisciplinary program and have prior teaching experience.
