The Saraland Board of Education is accepting applications for the following classified position.
POSITION TITLE: SCHOOL BOOKKEEPER
QUALIFICATIONS:
High School Diploma required
Degree in Accounting/Business preferred
Previous experience with computerized accounting systems with NextGen preferred
Demonstrated aptitude and competence for the assigned responsibilities
Alternatives to above qualifications as the Board may find appropriate and acceptable
REPORTS TO: Principal and Chief Financial Officier
PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES:
Embrace and promote the school system’s mission, vision, beliefs, and goals
Understand and assist in upholding and enforcing school rules, administrative regulations, and Board policy
Participate in the efficient and effective operation of the school, including meetings and assigned duties
Abide by the standards established for conduct referenced in the Alabama Educator Code of Ethics which defines the professional behavior of educators in Alabama and serves as a guide to ethical conduct
Exhibits a positive and helpful attitude with students, staff, parents, vendors, and other visitors while maintaining professionalism and
confidentiality
Regular and punctual in attendance, follow correct procedure for recording daily attendance and securing substitutes when required
Accept no other employment which interferes with the efficient and effective discharge of duties and responsibilities
Engage in training activities to maintain and improve professional competence
Maintain accurate, complete, and correct records as required by law, board policy, and administrative regulation related to this position
Maintains a regular filing system, as well as a set of locked confidential files, and processes incoming correspondence as instructed
Maintains a complete and systematic set of records of all financial transactions of the school on the designated computerized accounting system
Facilitates purchase orders for local school funds and instructional funds
Prepares/Records cash receipts and ensures daily deposits)
Traces errors and records adjustments to correct charges or credits posted to incorrect accounts
Reconciles bank statements and prepares financial reports monthly
Responsible for assistance in preparing annual school budget, including amendments to the original budget
Responsible for maintaining AASBO Local School Certification
Responsive to suggestions from supervisors and auditors
Maintains a complete and systematic set of records for all financial transactions of assigned local school/district
Records details of school financial transactions on computerized accounting system
Responsible for maintenance of accounts payable, accounts receivable, and monthly financial statements
Responsible for inventory control
Work as a member of a team
Communicate effectively both verbally and in writing
Willing to learn additional software, procedures, etc. as needed
Performs other duties as assigned by Principal and Chief School Financial Officer
TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT: Ten (10) or Twelve (12) month contract, as approved by Board
EVALUATION: Performance evaluated in accordance with Board policy
SALARY: Board approved salary schedule
