Our Planning & Development Services department has an opening for a Building Inspector I to provide professional and accurate inspection services for buildings under construction and/or repair and to ensure conformity with approved plans and building codes, entering inspection results into LIMS database. This position has a high level of customer interaction and will build and foster a positive working relationship, and maintain an excellent customer service standard when interfacing with both internal and external customers.

About the Position
In this role, you will...
- Inspect buildings under construction, alteration and/or repair to ensure conformity with approved plans and building codes.
- Review plans and specifications for proposed construction buildings and building improvements.
- Issue notices of code violations applicable to their license(s).
- Enter results of inspections into the Land Information Management System (LIMS) database and prepare reports, worksheets and daily activity reports.
- Research files and databases and maintain a variety of source background materials for reports.
- Provide and maintain an excellent customer service standard in answering questions from the public pertaining to building issues, codes and ordinances.
- Interface positively with peers, co-workers and other customers across the enterprise.
- Act in assigned capacity in the event of any County declared emergency.
About the Schedule
Work Hours:
- Full-Time, 40 hours per week.
- Monday - Friday, 7:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m.
About You
Minimum Qualifications:
- High School diploma or its equivalent -AND- Four (4) years of experience in Building (structural) construction trade or related field inspection or plans review.
- -OR- Bachelor's degree (or courses) from an accredited college or university in Civil Engineering, Architecture, Fire Administration, Building Construction/Inspection, or related field may substitute on a year-for-year basis for the required experience with at least One year in field construction (30 college credits is considered equivalent to one year of experience).
- Provisional license as a Standard Inspector in the applicable Building trade (or an ability to obtain within 120 days of hire).
- Standard Inspector license in the Building trade (or an ability to obtain within 12 months of hire or prior to the expiration of the provisional license not to exceed 24 months from date of hire).
- Valid Florida driver's license by date of hire.
Preferred Qualifications:
- State of Florida Standard License issued by DBPR as an inspector for Building.
Note: All Provisional or Standard Licenses must be obtained from the State of Florida, Department of Business and Professional Regulation (DBPR).
Subject to Passing Substance Screening: This position is subject to passing a pre-employment substance screening. An applicant who fails to pass a required drug screening test shall be disqualified from employment for a period of five years.
Physical Demands: Employees in this role must occasionally lift and/or move 20 lbs.
