As a Public Records Specialist for our records team, you will be responsible for receiving, processing, coordinating, and tracking public records requests in accordance with Florida law and Sarasota County Government procedures.
The pay starts between $53,456.00 - $58,011.20, based on experience, benefits begin within 60 days of hire, and there are opportunities for advancement; Apply today!
About the Position
In this role, a high level of customer service is required as there is a substantial amount of interaction with the public and coordination within the organization to complete requests. Examples of job responsibilities include...
Professionally interact with community members requesting public records and facilitate public records inquiries.
- Communicate with the requester to specify and/or clarify requests (as needed).
- Prepare the cost estimate for fees, discuss fees with the requester, and accept payment.
- Transmit records and ensure the public record requests are processed in accordance with Florida law and county procedures.
Coordinate with county staff to complete public records requests. Tasks included, but are not limited to:
- Conduct email searches.
- Work with county staff to develop responses to public records requests.
- Track the progress of requests.
- Collaborate with county staff to establish cost estimates for their required work to complete public records requests.
Perform data entry (and other related duties as assigned) and prepare deposits of funds (as needed).
About the Schedule
Work Hours:
- Full-time, 40 hours per week.
- Typical Schedule: Monday - Friday, 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. (no weekends!)

About You
To be considered for this role, you must have the following:
- Associate degree from an accredited college or university -with- three (3) years of job-related experience.
- -OR- Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university in a job-related field -with- one year of job-related experience.
- -OR- Five (5) years of professional-related experience may be substituted for the degree at management’s discretion
The ideal candidate has the following knowledge, skills, and/or abilities:

- Experience processing public records requests and/or related state law.
- Knowledge of public records software such as JustFIOA.

Starting Pay Range: $53,456.00 - $58,011.20, based on experience.
