Job Description
The booking / classification specialist performs a variety of duties including, but not limited to : processing appropriate paperwork from corrections services and operations pertaining to the classification of inmates within the facility; conduct interview of inmates; create and issue ID cards for inmates; data entry; maintain files; respond to inquiries from inmates; create and maintain statistical reports; and perform other related duties deemed necessary by the bureau commander.
General Description of Duties
Tasks : Complete assignment as directed; maintain work areas; knowledge of general orders; send and answer teletypes; enter arrests; determine bond amounts; check completeness of incoming paperwork; answer inmate questions; verify inmate identity for intake / transfer / release; written reports; update inmate status and court information; classify inmates; maintain inmate classification files; provide back-up within the bureau; generate reports; receive, route, and disperse telephone calls / messages; compose and type correspondence, reports, and other materials; sort and distribute mail; maintain confidential files; maintain and update files / reports / documentation; main personal files; track names and numbers of immigrants and boarders; organize and assemble requested information; write responses to inmates; process new warrant and capias from other counties; provide warrant information to LEOs and to the public; notify officials / agencies of warrants executed; cancel FCIC entries; recall warrants from other counties; respond to teletype inquiries; enter wanted persons into FCIC; request holds for subject in DOC custody; run court view inquiries; process out of county warrants and bonds; and process warrants from Visiflow program.

The Sarasota County Sheriff's Office requires all employees to have either an associates degree, 60 equivalent hours from an accredited college or university or the Wonderlic Basic Skills Test. The Wonderlic Basic Skills Test measures verbal and quantitative skills. Sworn
