Job Summary
Responsible for providing knowledge and support of the Baker Act (mental health laws of the State of Florida) and ensuring that the Florida Statutes (394) and Administrative Law (65E5) are adhered to regarding patients under the Baker Act. Completes and processes Baker Act forms and filing same with the Circuit Court of Sarasota County. Tracks all admissions to and discharges from the Cornell Behavioral Health Pavilion, advising staff of time remaining for patient evaluations, and a wide variety of specialized duties pertaining to the Baker Act.

Required Qualifications
- Require minimum of five (5) years of experience working with psychiatric patients in a behavioral health setting, with experience as Baker Act Specialist/Coordinator.
- Require a Bachelor Degree in psychology or related field. Five (5) years of related work experience may be substituted for required degree.
- Require the ability to obtain a level 2 AHCA clearance.
- Require certification in Crisis Prevention Intervention.
- Prefer demonstrated expertise in ensuring the Baker Act Statutes of Florida (394) and the Florida Administrative Law (65E5) are adhered to regarding the rights of patients admitted to the hospital under the Baker Act.
- Prefer demonstrated experience training new Baker Act Specialists, physicians and program staff to ensure compliance with regulatory requirements.
- Prefer excellent administrative, interpersonal communication and organization skills.
- Prefer the ability to be self-motivated and work independently and shift priorities with flexibility.
- Prefer the ability to coordinate a multitude of tasks in a fast-paced environment.
- Prefer the ability to deescalate high risk patients.
- Prefer the ability to provide exceptional customer service skills.
- Prefer the ability to use a personal computer and related software programs including accessing the intranet/internet.
- Prefer the ability to work with behavioral health patients.
