Job Summary
The Patient Care Technician performs tasks supportive to delivery of patient care in assigned departments under the direction of a Registered Nurse or Licensed Practical Nurse.
The Patient Care Technician carries out delegated skills of daily living that are within those functions limited by law to unlicensed nursing personnel. Our 46-bed cardiac progressive care unit consists of cardiac ischemia, myocardial infarction, cardiomyopathy, cardiac dysrhythmia, and congestive heart failure patient populations. The team-based culture on our cardiac progressive care unit has a dedicated Charge Nurse, Lead RN, Clinical Pharmacist, Case Manager, Respiratory Therapist, and Mobility Technician to support the patients’ needs and provide many resources for our nursing staff. Allowing for better patient to PCT ratios.
The Multi- Skilled Technician performs the same tasks as a Patient Care Technician, but they will also be trained as a Cardiac Monitor Technician/ Unit Coordinator. In this position, they will watch the cardiac monitors for all patients on the unit and notify the nurse if a rhythm changes. While not in the monitor room, they will answer patients’ call lights, complete consultation calls, manage the unit phone, and assist in paperwork for the shift. This is a versatile position, where the employee is able to fulfill either position when asked.
Patient Population:
- Patients with a primary cardiac diagnosis requiring complex nursing care including but not limited to:
- Continuous cardiac monitoring
- Acute abnormal arrhythmias
- Cardiac medication and cardiac drips management
- Pre/Post cardiac procedures: Pacemaker, angiography, cardioversions, ablations, Trans Esophageal Echocardiogram, and cardiac catheterizations
- Acute Heart Failure
- Acute myocardial infarction

Required Qualifications
Require one of the following:
1.) Florida licensure as Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA), Emergency Medical Technician (EMT); Paramedic, or a military corpsman; or National licensure as an Emergency Medical Technician (EMT); which must be maintained active during employment; or
2.) Nursing students who are eligible for CNA exam are required to: a.) currently be enrolled in an accredited school of Nursing (RN/LPN); b.) have completed the first semester of clinical for ASN/BSN degree or completion of first trimester for LPN; and c.) cannot be currently licensed in the U.S. as a RN or LPN; or
3.) Patient Care Technician (PCT) or Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) Certification: Provide certification of successful completion of a Florida State Board approved program and successfully obtain a Florida CNA license within 120 days of graduation. **Employees hired without the above licensure and/or by years of experience only prior to 11/11/19, are grandfathered in and will have the option of obtaining the stipulated licensure.
