Job Summary
Facilitates the day to day operations across SMHCS, which is comprised of (3) campuses in Sarasota County, Florida. Responsible for the oversight and supervision of front line Public Safety staff. Responsible for the safety of the staff, patients, visitors of SMHCS; as well the security of all properties associated with SMHCS. Public Safety Lead demonstrates a higher level of competency in the handling of hazardous situations and formulating plans on how to properly respond to these situations. Understands the importance of access control to and from sensitive areas; as well as basic knowledge of technical systems such as CCTV. Assists in investigation of SMHCS security incidents as they relate to persons and property. Assists with control of vehicular and pedestrian traffic on SMHCS properties, and assists with outside agencies during special circumstances (parades, construction). Demonstrates excellent customer service skills in the resolution of conflict with patients, staff, and visitors. Supports the mission of SMHCS and the objectives of the Public Safety Administration as it relates to the Sarasota County community.
Required Qualifications
- Require the following IAHSS Certifications within the designated timeframe:
- Certified Healthcare Security Officer (CHSO) within ninety (90) days from hire/promotion date.
- Certified Advanced Healthcare Security Officer (CAHSO) within thirty (30) days from date CHSO certification is obtained.
- Certified Healthcare Security Supervisor (CHSS) within six (6) months of hire/promotion date.
Note: Maintaining active status of lower-level certifications will not be required once higher-level certification has been obtained.
- Require the following State of Florida Security Officer Licensure within the designated timeframe:
- Class D - Security Officer Licensure within six (6) months of hire/promotion date.
- Class G - Armed Security Officer Licensure within six (6) months of hire/promotion date.
Note: All licensures must be maintained active throughout employment.
- Require flexibility in work schedule with the ability to work on other shifts when needed.
- Require a favorable driving record and background check.
- Require successful completion of Armed Officer Psychological Evaluation administered by a Board-Certified Police Psychologist.
Preferred Qualifications
- Prefer prior security and/or law enforcement experience.
- Prefer demonstrated exceptional verbal and written communication skills.
- Prefer the ability to maintain a professional, confident demeanor in stressful situations.
- Prefer competency in the use of computers.
- Prefer the ability to perform duties independently and with good judgment.
