Salary Range: $53,233 - $71,420* (*Based on years of service employed with Saratoga County)

Job Description
Work involves the operation of one or more types of specialized heavy automotive and/or construction
equipment used in road maintenance, construction projects and other sewer activities; Incumbent performs a
variety of manual tasks in connection with the operation and maintenance of such equipment; This title differs
from other Sewer District titles due to the more complex nature of skill level required for the equipment being
operated, along with the increased responsibility for the safety of others. Additional responsibility is involved
for making minor repairs and service to equipment and assisting with maintenance of wastewater equipment.
Work is performed under general supervision with leeway allowed for the exercise of independent judgement
in carrying out the details of the work. Supervision may be exercised over the work of Laborer(s) depending on
the project/assignment; Does related work as required.

Minimum Qualifications (at least)
One year of experience in the operation of specialized or heavy motor and/or construction maintenance
equipment, or two (2) years of experience in the operation of any type of specialized automotive equipment.

SPECIAL REQUIREMENT(s)

Candidate must possess a valid NYS Driver’s License appropriate for the “type” of vehicle to be operated, with
the appropriate endorsements issued by the New York State Department of Motor vehicles at time, and for
duration, of appointment. (CDL required for the operation of vehicles with a gross weight over 26,000 lbs.) A
CDL Class B with a tanker endorsement is required at time of application.

Typical Work Activities (*Illustrative)
• Operates, roller, tractor with equipment and other types of heavy equipment in the construction and

maintenance of driveways and other sewer projects;

• Operates heavy snow removal equipment including plows, heavy trucks, graders and 4 wheel drive

• Operates heavy equipment in connection with removing stumps, stripping gravel pits and related

• Operates a combination vac and jet truck for cleaning of pump stations and sewer lines;

• Performs minor maintenance and repair work on assigned equipment;
  

• May operate a variety of hand and power tools such as snow removal equipment, shovels, picks, axes,

• May operate chain saws in cutting and trimming trees;

• Loads and unloads vehicles;
• Performs manual tasks related to motor and/or heavy equipment operation;
