Job Description
This is professional work involving psychological testing and psychotherapy as part of a multidisciplinary team
in a publicly operated community mental health setting. This work requires licensure as a Psychologist in New
York State. Populations served may include children, adolescents, adults, and families. The incumbent may
also be directed to conduct evaluations pursuant to NYS CPL 730, Articles 3 and 10 of the Family Court Act,
and may be required to testify if so Ordered. Related work is performed as required.
Minimum Qualifications (at least)
Possession of a Doctorate degree in psychology or psychometrics. Licensure to practice as a Psychologist in
New York State with 3-5 years of practice experience. *Experience conducting Court-Ordered examinations is
preferred
(Degree must have been awarded by a college or university by a regional, national, or specialized agency recognized as an accrediting
agency by the US Department of Education/US Secretary of Education. If your degree was awarded by an educational institution
outside the United States and its territories, you must provide independent verification of equivalency. . You must pay the required
evaluation fee.)
Typical Work Activities (*Illustrative)
• Conducts intellectual, achievement, and personality tests for mental health clients;
- Screens and provides therapy to a variety of mental health clients using individual and family
- Assists in referral of clients to appropriate community resources;
- Coordinates the development of treatment plans as alternative to residential placements;
- Assists in the development of programs for behavior modification rehabilitation and counseling;
- Provides psychological consultation to Probation and Social Services activities with regard to specific
- Provides consultation and testimony before the Family Court system.
