Summary of Position:
Assumes responsibility for overseeing all Public Safety Officer's on a designated shift. Ensure departmental tasks are performed properly and promptly during the assigned shift.
Primary Job Responsibilities: The Lead Public Safety Officer is accountable to the Public Safety Manager as follows:
- Supervises the patrol of buildings and grounds to deter criminal acts and to report unsafe conditions as per the requirements and procedures defined in the department's operations manual.
- Supervises the public safety response to all codes according to hospital policy. Assists in controlling disorderly/combative persons in cases of an emergency as per the hospital's code policies and procedures. Selects priorities to be completed accordingly during routine and emergency situations.
- Assumes administrative as well as operational duties concerning staffing, scheduling, disciplinary actions, field officer training, evaluation process, and participating in hiring & terminating personnel for the assigned shift. Attends periodic departmental staff and administrative meetings. Assumes the role of senior public safety supervisor when the Manger or Director are not available. May be required to come in off-shift or after-hours to represent the Public Safety Admin Team for hospital-wide events such as Incident Command activations, Controlled Access situations, etc.
- Completes detailed review of all open security incident reports and coordinates follow-up investigations when warranted. Reviews departmental reports and logs on an on-going basis. Provides follow-up to correct inaccuracies or incompletions found. Ensure the department blotter is updated as appropriate.
- Ensures the public safety office, equipment and vehicles are maintained in a neat, clean and professional manner.
- Maintains a daily supervisory log of all activities and job functions that occur during his/her scheduled shift. Ensures public safety officers assigned are initiating required documentation of unusual circumstances, unsafe conditions, malfunctions and fire hazards. Is proficient in the usage of Hospital computerized programs including but not limited to the Access Control system and CCTV system.
- Ensure the processes of admissions and discharges from the morgue are adhered to.
Additional Responsibilities:
Assists public safety officers with assigned tasks when activity levels dictate. Maintain liaison with hospital administrative supervisors and law enforcement agencies when necessary. Handles complaints and questions from staff, employees, visitors and patients when supervisory intervention is needed or requested. Conducts training classes to hospital staff related to security and safety matters. Actively participates in yearly risk assessments ensuring time frames are adhered to. Other duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications:
High school graduate (or equivalent) required and candidate must be at least 23 years old with a valid, clean NYS Driver license to obtain approval to drive under the Saratoga Hospital auto insurance plan. Also required is a valid NYS Security Guard License.
Strong candidates will have a minimum of two years' experience in military, law enforcement or security. Healthcare security experience strongly preferred. IAHSS Basic, Advanced and Supervisor certifications preferred .
Must complete all levels of TEAM de-escalation certification and BLS certification within 30 days of employment.
