Saratoga OB/GYN & Midwifery seeks a per diem Certified Nurse Midwife.
This dynamic and continuously evolving practice provides the opportunity to deliver under the Midwifery Model of Care at Saratoga Hospital in the Women’s Health Service Department; a full service unit with amazing support from the community, medical staff, nurses and the well-regarded Saratoga OB/GYN consultant group. The department offers a Level I nursery, hydrotherapy tub room, lactation services, patient and family preparation classes, excellent support services. The Women’s Health Service Department attends approximately 900 births per year with the support of certified RN staff.
Saratoga OB/GYN & Midwifery has 9 OB/GYNs, 12 CNMs, many who practice full scope and a cadre of per diem providers, plus three nurse practitioners who practice in the outpatient setting.
The certified nurse midwife (CNM) is an advanced practice nurse who is responsible for the assessment, plan, implementation and evaluation of nurse midwifery care delivered to antepartum, intra-partum and postpartum, and newborn patients. The CNM performs physical exams, collects and documents data, manages labor and spontaneous delivery, conducts diagnostic and therapeutic procedures, orders and schedules laboratory studies and professional consultations, and prescribes appropriate interventions and medications. The CNM promotes safety and quality in clinical care.
PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES:
1. Provide direct clinical services and management of mothers and babies as defined in the standing orders, policies, procedures and protocols for the certified nurse midwife.
2. Obtain patient health histories and complete physical examinations. Document findings noting pertinent normal and abnormal findings.
3. Order and interpret appropriate diagnostic and laboratory tests. Explain the necessity, preparation, nature and anticipated effects of procedure(s) to patient, family, staff, and healthcare learners.
4. Perform approved therapeutic procedures based upon patient's clinical status.
5. Document patient preparation and response to procedure(s).
6. Formulate and implement prenatal, intrapartum, postpartum, newborn and interconceptional care as defined by the nurse midwifery service.
7. Collaborate with physician and nursing colleagues and document in medical records and appropriate narrative summaries.
8. Utilize prescriptive privileges as allowed. Document all prescriptions in patient's medical record.
9. Assess patient for change in status and institute appropriate interventions. Initiate necessary emergency interventions to stabilize patient.
10. Assess educational needs, plan, provide, and evaluate educational programs for nursing staff, interdisciplinary healthcare team, and community.
11. Precept nurse midwifery students and healthcare learners.
12. Provide patient and family education related to prenatal, intrapartum, postpartum, newborn and interconceptional care.
13. Utilize current research and evidence-based decision-making in all clinical practice.
14. Perform and participate in quality/performance improvement activities.
15. Serve as an expert consultant to nursing, members of the healthcare team and to the larger community.
16. Participate in and support accreditation, compliance, and regulatory activities of the organization.
17. Role model advanced practice professional nursing through conduct, appearance, communication, mutual respect, leadership, ethical decision-making, critical thinking, and problem-solving skills. Demonstrate responsibility for professional practice through active participation in professional organizations and continuing education. Enhance the body of knowledge of nursing or area of specialization through exchange of ideas and knowledge in professional organizations, oral presentations, posters, research activities, and written publications
QUALIFICATIONS:
Completion of a Nurse-Midwifery educational program approved by ACNM and accepted by the New York State Education Department. NYS license to practice Midwifery. Certification by the ACNM.

APP: CNM - $65/hr
Pay Grade: Compensation may vary based upon, but not limited to: overall experience and qualifications, shift, and location.
Salary : $65
