Job Description – Clinical Laboratory Scientist at Saratoga Hospital
Saratoga Hospital is looking to hire a Clinical Laboratory Scientist in Saratoga Springs, NY, who will be responsible for standardized biological and biochemical test procedures on blood, urine, tissue and body fluids, utilizing strong theoretical and practical knowledge of instrumentation and the principles of test procedures. He or she will use instruments such as standard microscopes, centrifuges, water baths, incubators, automated and semi-automated instruments, and Laboratory Information System. He or she will also be expected to problem-solve and decipher whether specimens maintain positive identification and assess any discrepancies to ensure the proper diagnosis and clinical management of patients.
Specifically, the Clinical Laboratory Scientist will:
- Perform testing according to SOP.
- Maintain extensive knowledge of instrument and equipment, including routine operation, proper working order, preventive maintenance and troubleshooting.
- Perform, evaluate and document required quality control procedures and document remedial action or acceptance of out of control results. Perform quality assurance activities as directed by supervisor.
- Use good analytical judgment and problem-solving skills to evaluate test results. Accurately report test results. Notify supervisor of problems and follows up as directed.
- Determine acceptability of specimens, maintain positive identification and resolve and document any discrepancies.
- Demonstrate a working knowledge of laboratory information system, including basic routines and other menus. Generate, review and act on reports as required by laboratory protocol.
- Demonstrate technical expertise and competence for all assigned tasks.
- Participate in training and orientation of staff.
The position requires a bachelor's degree in Medical Technology or a related field and a license by the NYS Department of Education as Clinical Laboratory Technologist or a NYS Clinical Laboratory Technologist Limited Permit. A successful candidate must have two (2) years of experience as a Medical Technologist or Clinical Laboratory Scientist, which includes two (2) years of experience in the following:
- Conducting laboratory tests;
- Maintaining laboratory equipment and supplies;
- Securing patients records;
- Following and recommending proper disposal of chemical and biological substances; and
- Drafting reports as required by government health agencies.
The annual base salary for this position ranges from $60,450 to $93,405
