Summary of Position: Under the direction of the Manager of Quality Support Services, the Quality Measures Abstraction Specialist is responsible for timely, reliable, and accurate concurrent and retrospective medical record reviews and abstraction of clinical data required to fulfill federal, state, and accrediting body reporting mandates, along with internal improvement initiatives, while effectively communicating untoward data and documentation issues as they arise.
Primary Job Responsibilities:
- Responsible for performing concurrent and retrospective clinical reviews to support core measure and accrediting body abstractions and internal improvement initiatives as assigned. Examples include but are not limited to: CMS Inpatient Quality Reporting Program (IQR) core measures; Perinatal Care Measures; Inpatient Psychiatric Facility Quality Program (IPFQR) and the American College of Surgeons (ACS) Metabolic and Bariatric Surgery Accreditation and Quality Improvement Program (MBSAQIP).
- Abstract data from EPIC into database systems to meet internal and external deadlines.
- Provide immediate feedback on data trends and unexpected outcomes when identified.
- Resolve challenges and barriers to the smooth execution of appropriate systems to support quality initiatives through interaction with the Manager QSS and team members.
- Assimilation, analysis, and preparation of data reports related to performance and or patterns and trends in performance concerns.
- Maintains schedules to comply with strict reporting deadlines.
- Maintains working knowledge of all applicable measure specifications; tracks and communicates measure specification changes and updates.
Minimum Qualifications: Associates Degree required, Bachelor’s Degree preferred. Current New York State license as Registered Nurse; may consider other health care professional with at least 3 years’ experience in quality measures abstraction and medical record review. Experience with electronic/hybrid medical records. Epic experience preferred. Previous experience with CMS core measures reporting preferred. Ideal candidate will have a minimum of 3-5 years’ experience specifically related to quality measures abstraction.
Salary Range: $26.97 - $47.44
Pay Grade: K
