POSITION SUMMARY:
This position supports the work of the Y, a leading nonprofit, charitable organization committed to strengthening community through youth development, healthy living and social responsibility. The Staff Accountant is responsible for processing accounts payable, reconciling accounts, preparing journal entries, and importing transactions to the general ledger. This position will also assist the CFO and Accounting Director with other accounting duties as assigned.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
- Accounts Payable: Hold purchasing staff accountable to the Purchasing Policy using automated Purchase Order system. Input and post invoices to accounting software, track payment dates, and maintain payment schedule for repetitive vendors. Print checks and process ACH payments weekly. Scan checks with supporting documentation to network. Retrieve and compile payable information as required, interface with vendors and colleagues to resolve billing deputes.
- Accounting/bookkeeping: Post transactions to the accounting software general ledger, process daily bank reconciliations, assist with month-end and year-end closeout processes.
- Cash receipts: Import daily receipts in accounting software, review general ledger account for errors and omissions.
- Payroll: Prepare general ledger entry and import into accounting software.
- Become proficient in the accounting, purchase order, and operations software; assist branches with software problems/questions, learn the accounting policies and procedures and assist staff with inquiries.
- Maintain files and records for the accounting department.
- Prepare correspondence as needed for the accounting department.
- Follow all YMCA policies, rules, regulations and procedures, including emergency and safety procedures.
- Knowledge of and commitment to the mission of the YMCA and our three areas of focus: youth development, healthy living, and social responsibility.
- Ability to articulate and model the Y’s four core values of caring, honesty, respect and responsibility.
- Attend staff meetings and in-service training as required.
- Perform other accounting, financial, or administrative tasks as required from time to time, occasionally on short notice, by the CFO or Accounting Director.
Requirements
- Minimum age of 21 years old.
- Bachelor Degree in Accounting.
- 1-3 years accounting experience.
- Excellent personal computer skills and experience with standard business software including but not limited to accounting software, Microsoft Excel, Word, and Outlook.
- Strong communication and organizational skills, attention to detail and the ability to maintain confidentiality.
- Excellent work habits, including a willingness to work irregular hours when called upon to get assigned tasks done on a timely basis.
