What are the responsibilities and job description for the Speech Language Pathologist Full or Part Time; CFY considered position at Sargent Rehabilitation Center?
The Speech and Language Therapist is directly under the supervision of the Executive Director of Educational Programs. Supports students with disabilities within a small group and 1:1 setting, providing direct therapy. The Speech and Language therapist works collaboratively with the teachers, teaching assistants, related service providers, and job coaches, to provide direct therapy at the student’s appropriate level, and ensure student access to academics, peers, and functional communication.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
•Department of Health credentials as certified as a Speech and Language Therapist in the State of Rhode Island
•Three years of experience as a speech and language therapist preferred
•Successful direct experience with children exhibiting communication deficient, social pragmatic, emotional and behavioral challenges
•Successful experience working with children with developmental disabilities, intellectual disabilities and autism
•Successful experience and training in conducting language evaluations including augmentative communication.
•Successful experience working with a team including Teaching Assistants
•Understanding of critical practices and systems of positive behavior support
•Evidence of successful engagement with families
•Knowledge of state and federal special education eligibility criteria
•Knowledge of special education laws and regulations and willingness to implement the special education process
•Knowledge of Individualized Education Programs
•Strong interpersonal skills
•The ability to work with educators, administrators, and parents to problem-solve challenging issues
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
1.Provide a therapeutic environment that is safe, respectful and effective for meeting students’ communication and social/emotional/behavioral challenges;
2.Design therapeutic learning opportunities that have an academic, experiential and/or service-based component;
3.Work collaboratively and supportively with families, faculty and administrators and outside treatment teams;
4.Write Individualized Education Programs;
5.Model and implement interventions in collaboration with other teachers and therapists;
6.Redesign environments to increase the likelihood of success;
7.Demonstrate sensitivity to cultural differences in social interaction patterns and styles;
8.Use multiple instructional techniques such as role playing, modeling, and direct feedback to address learning challenges;
9.Enhance students’ personal and social success by teaching social skills;
10.Support adults in the integration of interventions to improve outcomes and coach adults in the implementation of identified interventions;
11.Collect data for regulatory compliance reports; analyze data to inform instruction and support school and district decision making.
12.Maintain student records and protect their confidentiality;
13.Support decision making framework that guides the selection, integration and implementation of the best evidence based academic and behavioral practices for improving outcomes for all students;
14.Teach and encourage prosocial skills and behaviors;
15.Maintain certification around desocialization strategies and physical management
16.Perform other tasks as may be assigned by the Executive Director of Educational Programs.
