SUMMARY
The Facilities Maintenance Technician III maintains and provides thoughtful watch to physical buildings through observation, scheduled maintenance with contract vendors, and preventative maintenance procedures. Works to develop self and others proactively in the proper care, maintenance, and troubleshooting of HVAC equipment, refrigeration systems, boilers, compressors, utilities, and facility related infrastructure to optimize plant performance. This position sets the expectation of quality work within the plants and works with plant team members, vendors, and contractors while providing coaching of Tech I and Tech II positions.
This position will be based out of the Sartori Whey facility, though will work at other facilities as needed. Primary working hours are 7am to 3pm with the flexibility to shift as business needs.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following. Other duties may be assigned.
- Demonstrates deductive reasoning in creating documented best practices for preventive maintenance on all facility related equipment and infrastructure. Provides direction and instruction on product choice, application, and methodology.
- Monitors the proper execution of the facility’s scopes of work with awarded contract service providers in ammonia refrigeration, waste management, storm water pollution prevention, or contract cleaning services.
- Works closely with and advises Quality and Safety Teams on facility walks. Plans, prioritizes, and ensures completion of work through others and follows up proactively on corrective actions lists and work orders.
- Maintains, tests, troubleshoots, repairs, and provides high level thought while coaching others on facility systems using test equipment, technical documents, and materials.
- Delivers results for sustainability and reductions on energy consumption by working with applications to refine performance of building automation systems.
- Identifies and leads facility specific projects and initiatives on equipment maintenance, replacement, and infrastructure improvements. Initiates and communicates work plans to plant personnel and completes all required documentation.
- Directs others on the proper fabrication and sanitary welding of repair parts or components to food grade standards utilizing machine shop equipment.
- Monitors parts inventories and determines proper inventory level, anticipates needed parts and supplies, and directs others in placing and expediting orders.
- Delivers results and provides a clean and safe work area. Sets the example and expectation in all areas while completing work in food processing plants.
- Upholds, instructs, and coaches others on Safety, HACCP and GMP policies.
- Immediately acts on any food safety or quality issues and communicates out to management or other individuals authorized to initiate action.

EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE
- Associate's degree or equivalent from two-year college or technical school and minimum of 5 years related experience at a high level of performance in a similar food plant environment. In lieu of the education requirement, 10 years of relevant maintenance experience in a manufacturing environment is sufficient.

- Maintenance Software - knowledge of maintenance software including BAS Systems, CMMS, and control software. Well-versed in knowledge and application of software.

CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS
- Driver's license required. Must maintain a clean driving record to remain insurable under the company’s insurance policy.
- Any of the following Certifications preferred: Plumbing, Journeyman Electrician or Millwright, HFC refrigeration, HVAC Service, Combustion Boiler Service, or IIAR 6 Ammonia Refrigeration Operator 1.
- Certified to operate and train others on forklifts and scissor lifts (will train and certify on the job).

While performing the duties of this job, the Team Member is frequently exposed to moving mechanical parts. The Team Member is occasionally exposed to wet and/or humid conditions; high, precarious places; fumes or airborne particles; toxic or caustic chemicals; outside weather conditions; working in coolers at temperatures of 40-45 degrees; extreme heat in areas such as the boiler room; risk of electrical shock; and vibration. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate to loud.
TOOL & EQUIPMENT USED
While performing the duties of this job, the Team Member may be required to work with hand power tools, welders, cutting torches, presses, lathes, milling machines, grinders, calculator, measuring and calibrating tools, electrical test instruments, mechanical test instruments, motorized pallet trucks, and assorted hand tools.
PPE’s REQUIRED
Personal protective equipment that is required when working with hazardous materials or loud equipment includes: safety goggles, rubber or latex gloves, lab coat and hearing protection.
