SUMMARY

Leading a team of technicians, the Maintenance Support Lead oversees and coordinates maintenance support activities within the organization. This position ensures the maintenance of equipment and machinery and supports operational efficiency by minimizing downtime Working closely with supervisors and team leaders, this position ensures tasks are completed in a timely manner and with a high level of precision. This position will work 12-hour nights, 6pm to 6am, on a 2/2/3 rotation. 

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Team Leadership

  • Engages the Maintenance Team in developing overall plant maintenance objectives to best support process systems and plant infrastructure.
  • Leads the Maintenance Team in providing maintenance services such as routine and emergency equipment repairs, overhauls, corrective work and other maintenance operations to ensure minimal down-time of production processes and equipment.
  • Develops clear expectations, tracks and communicates results, and creates an environment for accountability for results and actions.
  • Leads, develops, and engages a dynamic maintenance team, fostering a culture of growth, integrity, collaboration, and maintenance excellence.
  • Maintenance Operations
  • Maintains, troubleshoots, repairs/rebuilds and improves all process and packaging systems, equipment, and all related components.
  • Maintains, tests, troubleshoots, and repairs control systems utilizing required test equipment, technical support documents and materials when needed and completes scheduled preventive maintenance on all process and packaging equipment.
  • Recommends and communicates with others on process improvements and corrections either through adjustments, modifications, or design changes.
  • Leads maintenance projects and installations related to line specific equipment and infrastructure.
  • Initiates, completes, and communicates work orders to plant and maintenance personnel. Prepares reports on maintenance performance metrics and downtime.
  • Maintains, adjusts, troubleshoots, calibrates, and repairs all electronic components of motor control systems, and electronic instrumentation. Works with programmable logic controllers (PLCs), frequency drives, and controllers to perform adjustments and review settings when needed.
  • Equipment Management
  • Fabricates repair parts or components utilizing machine shop equipment.
  • Performs fabrication and sanitary welding to repair equipment, and structural components according to food grade standards.
  • Maintains equipment, parts, and supplies inventories by checking stock to determine inventory level, anticipating needed parts and supplies, and placing and expediting orders in conjunction with the maintenance team
  • Maintains accurate documentation of equipment repairs.
  • Maintains a clean work area and sets the example and expectation, both in the maintenance shop and while completing work in food processing plants.
  • Health, Safety & Compliance
  • Ensures the team adheres to safety regulations and company policies, including Hazard Analysis and Critical Control Points (HACCP) and Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP) policies.
  • Immediately reports food safety or quality issues to management or other individuals authorized to initiate action.
  • Conducts safety inspections and participates in incident and investigations when necessary.

 

QUALIFICATIONS

EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE

· Associate's degree or equivalent from two-year college or technical school and minimum of 5 years related experience at a high level of performance in a similar food plant environment. In lieu of the education requirement, 10 years of related Maintenance experience in a manufacturing environment is sufficient.

· Minimum of 2 years of leadership experience with maintenance teams, preferred.

· Proficiency using plant utilities and systems, computerized maintenance management systems (CMMS), and reliability-based maintenance in a fast-paced manufacturing environment required.

· Industrial maintenance expertise in one or more disciplines (electrical, millwright, or machine repair maintenance) with a solid knowledge base in pneumatics, hydraulics, electrical, mechanical, and drive components.

· Demonstrated experience adhering to safety regulations required.

 

OTHER KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES

· Maintenance Software - knowledge of maintenance software including: WonderWare, Ladder Logic and Allen Bradley software.

· Technical Knowledge - strong knowledge of sanitary fabrication and welding techniques. Ability to read, interpret, and instruct others on work related documents and blueprints, operating and maintenance instructions, procedural diagrams, wiring diagrams, layouts, and ladder logic and carry out work instructions.

· Mathematical - advanced ability and application of math skills including addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division. Ability to use trigonometry, algebra, geometry, and applying units of weight measurement and counts, ratios, proportions, percentages.

· Root Cause Analysis - ability to apply Root Cause Analysis and combine pieces of information to form general rules or conclusions; or, apply general rules to specific problems.

CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS

Driver's license required for using company vehicles. Must maintain a clean driving record in order to remain insurable under the company’s insurance policy.

Journeyman license holder in Electrician or Millwright.

Certified to operate forklifts (will train and certify on the job)

Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, color vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus.

 

WORK ENVIRONMENT

While performing the duties of this job, the Team Member is frequently exposed to moving mechanical parts. The Team Member is occasionally exposed to wet and/or humid conditions; high, precarious places; fumes or airborne particles; toxic or caustic chemicals; outside weather conditions; working in coolers at temperatures of 40-45 degrees; extreme heat in areas such as the boiler room; risk of electrical shock; and vibration. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate to loud.

 

TOOLS & EQUIPMENT USED

While performing the duties of this job, the Team Member may be required to work with hand power tools, welders, cutting torches, presses, lathes, milling machines, grinders, calculator, measuring and calibrating tools, electrical test instruments, mechanical test instruments, motorized pallet trucks, and assorted hand tools.

 

PPE’s REQUIRED

Personal protective equipment (PPE) that is required when working with hazardous materials or loud equipment includes: safety goggles, rubber or latex gloves, lab coat and hearing protection.
