Position: Functional Safety Engineer
Location: Indianapolis, Indiana
Duration: 12 Months
We are seeking a highly skilled and motivated Functional Safety Engineer to join our team in Indiana, specializing in Autonomous Solutions within the mining and heavy industry sector. You will be responsible for ensuring the products delivered are at as low a risk level as reasonably practicable (ALARP) and compliant with applicable local and international safety regulations and standards. In this role, you will also coordinate effective investigations into incidents involving machines supported in the field by our team.
Key Responsibilities:
- Facilitate risk assessment workshops for new products, updates to existing products, and assist clients with risk assessments required by management-of-change protocols.
- Define the functional requirements related to the safety of autonomous solution products and ensure they are included in the product s validation checklists.
- Identify and implement controls to ensure that the product s risk profile is as low as reasonably practicable.
- Audit automation products as per required schedules to ensure compliance with relevant international safety standards.
- Recommend improvements to the safety management system, including its management-of-change component.
- Review completed risk assessments, audit actions, and ensure functional requirements resulting from previous risk assessments are implemented effectively.
- Lead the incident investigation process, ensuring adherence to protocols and updating the functional safety validation accordingly.
- Drive the execution of safety bulletins when necessary.
- Validate and sign off that actions generated from risk assessments or incident investigations are safe and compliant with standards.
Qualifications:
- Strong expertise in functional safety standards and regulations for autonomous systems in the mining and heavy industry sectors.
- Proven experience in risk assessment facilitation, incident investigation, and safety audits.
- Familiarity with safety management systems and management-of-change protocols.
- Excellent problem-solving skills and attention to detail.
- Strong communication and collaboration skills to work effectively with internal teams and clients.
