Job Description:

The legacy mainframe environment at the client hosts critical IT infrastructure for the City's Payroll, Pension Payroll, Budget, and Workers' Compensation systems. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in IMS software and catalog installation, maintenance, patching, upgrading, administration, and disaster recovery exercises.

This role also requires experience in:

Database backups, recoveries, reorgs, and data unloading/loading

COBOL packages & plans within DB2

Collaborating with application development, system administration, and infrastructure teams

Ensuring IMS database stability, high availability, integrity, and performance optimization

Required Qualifications:

10 years of experience as an IMS Systems Programmer working with IMS hierarchical databases on IBM z/OS mainframes.

Expertise in IMS DB/DC, IMS utilities, and IMS Transaction Manager.

Strong understanding of z/OS system internals, storage management, and performance monitoring.

Proficiency in JCL, TSO/ISPF, DBRC, and VSAM.

Experience with BMC, IBM, or other IMS database management tools.

Hands-on experience with:

IMS database recovery, reorganization, and tuning

DBRC (Database Recovery Control) & HALDB (High Availability Large Database)

Implementing DBDs and PSBs for the IMS catalog

ACB Maintenance & IMS catalog management

RECON maintenance, backup, and recovery

IMS Tools upgrade and ongoing maintenance

Experience with IMS Systems Programming, configuration changes, and troubleshooting.

Ability to document processes, best practices, and system configurations.

Strong problem-solving skills and ability to work independently or in a team.

Preferred Qualifications:

Experience with IMS modernization & integration with distributed systems

Knowledge of Rexx, CLIST, and automation scripting

Familiarity with CICS, DB2, and DevOps tools for mainframe environments

IMS certification from IBM or equivalent industry certification
