Reporting to the Discipline Engineering Lead; Instrument Engineer supporting Discipline Engineering and Project Delivery functions for the Americas. Responsible for subject matter expertise in instrument engineering supporting ongoing operations, maintenance, turnaround, and new capital project engineering and delivery.

Key Accountabilities
- Provide authoritative technical subject matter expertise in Instrument Engineering for industrial process plant instrumentation infrastructure and facilities. Should be a recognized expert in the field.
- Lead and participate in technical forensic analysis, Fitness for Service, RCA, and investigation of instrumented systems and instrumentation deficiencies.
- Evaluate the risk verses benefits of complex problems and decision analyses and take and / or formulate appropriate actions.
- Provide support to all departments and levels of the business and strategic guidance to senior and executive management. This includes knowing when to communicate to management, and what communication is appropriate to a particular level of management.
- Engineer of record for on-site instrument engineering and design.
- Support capital projects and business development with appropriate guidance in concept development and FEL. A solid understanding of the FEL process is required.
- Work with interdisciplinary project teams in scope development to ensure completeness and minimal change impact.
- Support of engineering activities including engineering / design quality assurance, technical or stage / gate reviews, execution planning, etc.
- Ensure compliance with Company, industry, and regulatory requirements, and support the waiver process when necessary.
- Development and maintenance of Company standards and specifications.
- Audit and technical assessments of instrumentation vendors and contractors.
- Support the Change Management Process, with safety focus as the top priority.
University Bachelors Degree in Engineering
Working Experience
- 15 years relevant experience
- Experience performing detailed engineering and design for PSM regulated petrochemical or refining industries
- Exceptional interpersonal skills including written and verbal communication abilities with cross-functional and multi-disciplinary teams.
- Ability to work with a wide variety of personnel and stakeholders at different levels of engineering, design, maintenance, operations, and management as well as corporate or global stakeholders.
- Strong leadership skills, capable of directing teams and has strong assertiveness skills and knows how to productively influence work groups.
- Understanding of instrument engineering and construction activities in both capital project execution and operating facilities support.
- Instrumentation design proficiency in flow calculations, valve sizing, level and temperature applications using standard design tools, preferably Intergraph Smart Instrument and Emerson sizing and selection tools.
- Knowledge of process measurement and control instrumentation design methods, best practices, and techniques required to engineer, design, and construct petrochemical facilities.
- Knowledge of National Codes and Standards such as ISA, IEC, NEC, API with the ability to interpret/communicate these requirements to Company and contract engineers, designers, and instrument technicians.
- Knowledge of distributed control systems, especially I/O interface requirements and wiring for instrumentation, preferably Emerson Delta V and ABB.
- Knowledge of programmable logic controllers, including ladder or function block diagrams, preferably Allen Bradley.
- Knowledge of safety instrumented system design.
- Knowledge of stage gate project development and execution process.
- Knowledge of SAP system or similar enterprise accounting system.
