Position Summary: Responsible for providing professional nursing care to residents and assists in the administration of all medications and treatments to provide the highest possible quality of nursing care for each resident, adhering to established standards and recommendations for the long term care of geriatric residents.
Qualifications: Sufficient previous clinical experience. Current LPN license in the state where employed, CPR certification.
Duties:
- Assigns duties to non-professional nursing staff for the particular shift, based on needs of the resident and competence of available staff
- Accepting and transcribing doctors orders, acquisition of and administration of all medications and treatments and proper documentation
- Does primary patient assessment and visits residents daily to ensure maximum care and to ascertain need for additional or modified service
- Assists in orientation of new personnel to unit
- Knows the hospital’s LTCU safety plans and assigns team members in event they are put into effect
- Identifies and studies nursing service and unit problems and assists in their solution
- Implements nursing and administrative policies, makes sure all staff are following and implementing P and P
- Notifies proper authorities when:
a) Patient condition changes
b) Accident occurs to resident or employee
c) Any suggestion on resident’s medication or treatment
d) Notifies family of resident per family notification policy
- Performs such procedures as catheterization, bladder irrigations, dressing changes and other complex treatments in accordance with accepted nursing policies and procedures
- Is expected to answer residents call lights when needed
- All language during assigned working hours shall be English unless otherwise directed by supervisor on a case by case basis
- Shall perform any and all other duties, within your scope of practice, as assigned by those appointed to a position over you

- May perform emergency care
