Title: Public Health Clerk
Job Relationships: Reports to: Director of Public Health Department
Interrelationships: Works cooperatively with all hospital departments, county and state agencies.
Job Summary: The clerk performs a wide variety of clerical duties and duties including but not limited to Maternal Child Home Visitor Program/Woman, Infants & Children Program/Car Seat Safety Technician, COVID-19 Contact Tracer, if speaks Spanish, to interpret for Spanish speaking clients. Courtesy, respect, confidentiality, professionalism and accuracy are required.
Essential Function:
- Motor coordination and manual dexterity.
- Ability to carry out procedures as outlined.
- Normal eyesight, with or without corrective lenses.
- Normal hearing, with or without hearing aid.
- Daily lifts supplies/equipment/clients.
- Prolonged, extensive, or considerable standing/walking.
- Considerable reaching, stooping, bending, kneeling, and crouching.
Job Duties:
- Answers the telephone and fields questions and concerns from the public.
- Responsible for scheduling and registering clients.
- Inquiries about client’s insurance and collects payment
- Performs general clerical duties including scanning, filing, delivering mail, data entry and copying.
- Translates as needed.
- Carries out the Home Visitor Program (visits may be done in office).
- WIC Clerk and affidavits.
- Care Seat technician.
- Medicaid Facilitator.
- Follows department and safety policies and procedures.
- Responsible for securing offices and equipment at the close of each day.
- COVID-19 contact tracing.
- Receptionist as needed at the Satanta and Sublette clinics.
- Assist with farm worker program food packages.
- Performs other duties as deemed necessary or assigned.
- Purchase order preparation.
- Coding and Rev Cycle
Job Qualifications:
Experience: Employee is expected to have acquired the necessary training and skills to perform the job reasonably well within six months of employment.
Education: A high school diploma or GED and a valid Driver’s license is required.
Technical Skills: A working knowledge of Spanish and English languages for translation purposes, general office practices, computer and mathematics is required. This employee must be able to operate computer, copiers, telephones, calculators, and other office equipment. Ability to understand and anticipate problems, to understand written instructions, reports, and manuals are required.
Problem Solving: Some problem solving is involved in the position. This employee makes decisions about resolving client concerns, scheduling conflicts, and incorrect translation.
Decision Making: Some decision making is a factor in this position. This employee makes decisions about resolving client concerns, prioritizing daily assignment, and performing daily duties in the most efficient manner.
Typical Working Conditions: The work environment involves moderate hazards, risks, or discomforts. Exposure to communicable disease requires infection control measures. Minor to moderate injuries are possible from immunization and specimen collection procedures. May be exposed to blood borne disease.
Special Job demands:
- Obtain training for MCH Home Visit Program, WIC, Car Seat Technician and COVID-19 Contact Tracing.
- Some overnight travel is required.
- Ability to work with clients of all ages, including children.
- Subject to meeting irate/difficult persons.
- Ability to work with not-English speaking persons.
- Multiple software programs used: Cerner, KIPHS, VaxCare, Transact RX, Availity, Daisy, KMAP but not limited to these.
