General Description
The Preschool Director is accountable for maintaining the daily operations of the Satellite Beach United Methodist Preschool. This Christian-based program is warm, friendly, and child-centered serving children ages 22 months through pre-kindergarten. The Director must demonstrate a strong interest and understanding of developmentally appropriate practices of young children in a Christian-based learning environment. Responsibilities include staff recruitment, child enrollment processes, staff development, curriculum development, and classroom safety and management to ensure a quality early childhood education program is maintained. The Director shall be of Christian faith and an active member of a local church, preferably the United Methodist Church. The position is subject to successful background and fingerprint check.
Education and Experience
1. Active Director Credential is required
2. Two- or four-year degree from an accredited college with a minimum of nine college credits in early childhood education
3. Minimum 3-5 years’ experience in a preschool or licensed child care center and some work experience as a leader in a licensed child care program
4. CPR and First Aid Certification is required
Essential Job Functions
1. Maintain the daily operation of the Satellite Beach United Methodist Preschool, a quality Christian-based, child-centered program
2. Meet and maintain school and employee files in complete compliance with state licensing requirements and county child care codes
3. Maintain United Methodist Association of Preschools (UMAP) standards
4. Create the annual budget with SBUMC Treasurer for proposal to Preschool Advisory Team (PAT)
5. Lead and support the staff through teamwork and mutual respect to achieve individual and classroom goals
Work Schedule
1. Work hours from August – May (33 hours weekly) and then June to July (15-20 hours weekly)
2. Host and lead occasional daytime, nighttime and Sunday special events to support the preschool program, such as Trunk or Treat, Cookie Walk, Pre-School Sunday programs and other programs as needed
3. Attend monthly PAT meetings and present a report to the PAT regarding and financials, registration, attendance and other needed information
Attend church staff meetings and monthly church Leadership Team Meetings
Management and Planning
1. Implement and maintain the preschool program philosophy, goals, objectives, policies and procedures
2. Interview, hire, supervise, evaluate and terminate staff, including annual assessment of classes and staff, and conduct 90-day new-hire evaluation
3. Collect and document fees and tuitions, and maintain financial records
4. Create, maintain, and review budget monthly
5. Order classroom and program supplies needed for the preschool program
6. Operate within the budget and obtain PAT approval for non-budgeted expenditures over $500
7. Maintain Health and student records, class lists, and files of all students and staff in compliance with DCF (Department of Children and Families)
8. Schedule work hours for staff
9. Recruit and arrange for appropriate substitute staff when needed
10. Select and/or develop the Preschool Curriculum that incorporates Christian principles, is child-centered, educational, and appropriate for a Christian preschool
11. Implement classroom management practices to ensure a safe, secure, and orderly preschool environment is maintained
12. Provide ongoing training opportunities for the preschool staff
13. Monitor and evaluate preschool staff to foster a continuous learning culture
14. Provide site tours for new and prospective families
15. Attend at least 12 hours of in-service, conferences, and seminars as required by DCF in early childhood training with some hours directly related to the position of director
16. Complete end of year procedures and begin summer planning. Summer schedule is to be coordinated with the Preschool Board Chairperson
17. Plan for the future growth and vision of the preschool program
18. Perform other duties as assigned
19. Coordinate with church leadership to facilitate implementation of Preschool weekly Chapel
20. Coordinate graduation planning with VPK lead. Lead the Graduation as planned.
Communication
1. Maintain open communication between the preschool and parents such as through direct contact, newsletters, conferences, phone calls and e-mail
2. Serve as a contact person for the parents and plan for informational meetings or to address concerns and answer questions
3. Encourage parent involvement
4. Establish and maintain an open, friendly, relationship with children enrolled at the preschool
5. Provide writeup and pictures for monthly church newsletter (Vision)

Staff Leadership
1. Facilitate an atmosphere of cooperation, teamwork, and mutual respect
2. Establish and maintain an open, friendly, warm relationship with each staff member
3. Work with teachers to ensure that developmentally appropriate, Christian-based activities are implemented and measured
4. Organize and facilitate monthly staff meetings
5. Provide staff with in-service training opportunities
6. Provide orientation for new staff members
7. Prepare staff evaluations. Provide positive feedback and address areas that need further development
8. Assist staff in the classroom or during outside time if needed
Health and Safety
1. Create and maintain a safe, secure, healthy, age-appropriate, welcoming learning environment for young children
2. Ensure the health and safety of each child while on the preschool site
3. Ensure CPR and First Aid training are current for director and all preschool staff
4. Conduct periodic check of classroom, playground, and indoor and outdoor equipment, correcting anything that could be hazardous
5. Develop, communicate, and maintain an emergency plan
6. Determine emergency measures to initiate when a child is injured
7. Maintain Health Forms for students as required by DCF
Ministry
1. Encourage, inspire, and nurture preschool children and their families in the love of Jesus and to share the Good News
2. Communicate with the Church Leadership Team about the progress/needs of the preschool and ensure the congregation also remains informed about the progress of the preschool program
3. Serve as a resource, and role model for the people of SBUMC and specifically the Children’s Ministries of SBUMC
4. Advocate to grow a spirit of Christian community specifically with and between the preschool staff and also the preschoolers and their families
