Position: English & Education Instructor
Location: Sugar River Valley Regional Technical Center Claremont, NH
Reports to: CTE Center Director
Job Summary:
The SRVRTC Center seeks a dynamic and engaging instructor to deliver a comprehensive program combining practical English language arts skills with foundational education and teacher preparation. This role encompasses two key components:
Hands-on Technical English: Providing students with essential communication skills tailored for success in technical fields.
Introduction to Education & Behavioral Science: Offering a foundational understanding of human growth and development, and an introduction to the teaching profession.
Responsibilities:
Technical English (CTE English 2 Blocks a Day):
Develop and deliver a rigorous, hands-on curriculum focused on practical communication skills relevant to technical careers.
Instruct students in various forms of professional writing, including:
Resumes and cover letters
Technical reports
Business correspondence
Professional summaries of CTE education experiences
Facilitate collaborative projects and practical exercises that simulate real-world workplace scenarios.
Organize and conduct informational interviews with local businesses, fostering direct engagement with industry professionals.
Develop and assess student oral communication skills through presentations and simulated workplace scenarios.
Create and maintain a classroom environment that promotes active learning, collaboration, and professional development.
Integrate technology effectively into instruction to enhance student learning.
Introduction to Education & Behavioral Science (Intro to Teacher Prep - Quarter Class):
Deliver engaging instruction on Human Growth & Development I and II, covering key developmental stages and theories.
Provide an introduction to the teaching profession, exploring educational principles and practices.
Facilitate discussions and activities that promote critical thinking and reflection on educational concepts.
Assess student understanding through a variety of methods, including projects, presentations, and written assignments.
Potentially organize opportunities for students to observe or participate in educational settings.
General Responsibilities:
Develop and implement lesson plans that align with CTE Center goals and industry standards.
Maintain accurate student records and provide timely feedback on student progress.
Collaborate with other CTE Center instructors and staff to ensure a cohesive and integrated learning experience.
Participate in professional development activities to enhance teaching skills and knowledge.
Adhere to all school and district policies and procedures.
Maintain a safe and effective learning environment.
Qualifications:
Bachelor's degree in English, Education, or a related field (Master's degree preferred).
Valid teaching certification (or eligibility to obtain certification) in English Language Arts or a related field.
Demonstrated experience in teaching writing and communication skills.
Knowledge of human growth and development principles.
Experience working with high school students in a career and technical education setting (preferred).
Strong communication, interpersonal, and organizational skills.
Ability to work collaboratively with colleagues and industry partners.
Proficiency in using technology for instruction and assessment.
Experience with CTE programs is a plus
