POSITION SUMMARY:
The Banquet Captain oversees the setup, service, and breakdown of events at the country club, ensuring all functions are executed smoothly and efficiently. They are responsible for maintaining the highest standards of service, including managing staff, ensuring proper attire, and promoting a professional and courteous atmosphere.
- Attend pre-function meetings to review event details, coordinate staff responsibilities, and ensure all duties are understood and prepared for the event.
- Have a thorough knowledge of the menu and be able to assist staff in explaining ingredients, special dietary concerns, and preparation methods to guests.
- Oversee the set-up of the function according to the Banquet Event Order (BEO). Ensure that all linens, silverware, and glassware are clean and polished.
- Greet and welcome members and guests, ensuring they feel valued and attended to from the moment they arrive.
- Oversee the service of food and beverages, ensuring that they are served in the correct order and in accordance with the expectations of the Banquet Manager and/or Event Coordinator to maintain consistency throughout the function.

Supervise and assist in all aspects of service, ensuring that staff is atte
ntive to guests' needs and that the event runs smoothly. Routinely check with guests to ensure satisfaction. - Immediately notify management of any incidents or concerns involving excessive alcohol consumption, impaired conditions, or other safety-related matters.
- Oversee the proper clearing of tables and break-down of aisle trays, ensuring all areas are clean and properly reset after each service.
- Supervise the break-down of buffets or other specialized food service areas and reset the room according to the BEO, ensuring the venue is ready for future events.
- Ensure all sidework and cleaning duties are completed thoroughly by staff and according to department standards.
- Arrive on time, in full uniform, and prepared for the shift as scheduled.
- Attend and actively participate in departmental meetings to stay informed of updates, expectations, and best practices.
- Maintain a consistent, professional, and positive attitude when communicating with members, guests, vendors, and co-workers.
- Report any guest dissatisfaction or unusual occurrences to the manager or supervisor immediately to ensure appropriate action can be taken.
- Adhere to safety, sanitation, and security procedures, ensuring compliance with health and safety standards. Always check with the manager/supervisor before leaving the work area.
- Take on special projects and additional responsibilities as assigned, demonstrating flexibility and leadership.
Education and Experience:
- High school education
- 2-3 experience in a banquet or event service role, preferably in a supervisory or leadership position.
- Food service and alcohol awareness certification preferred
Skills and Abilities:
- Ability to understand and provide friendly guest service.
- Ability to understand and comply with proper food handling, serving techniques and federal, state and local serving guidelines.
- Consistent professional attitude and behavior with effective listening and communication skills.
- Ability to work in a fast-paced environment, sometimes under pressure, while remaining flexible and efficient.
