What are the responsibilities and job description for the Engineering Tech II position at Sauder Manufacturing Co.?
SCHEDULE: MONDAY - FRIDAY 7:00 AM TO 3:00 PM
Position Summary:
This position will primarily be focused on the building and maintaining of various work holding fixtures, jigs, simple gages, assembly devices and other processing equipment for making and assembling wood products in a production-based environment. Specific skills needed include drawing (CAD is a plus), sketching and interpretation, the use of shop equipment including lathe & mill, saws, use of hand and small power tools, basic assembly, and precision fabrication with both metal and wood. Experience with CNC wood machining and fixturing would be advantageous. This position will also provide Technical Support to manufacturing processes within a business unit. The job maintains and troubleshoots a wide range of machines, tools, equipment, and computer programs to establish and support production processes that aid in the production of furniture components in a Lean Manufacturing environment.

- Provides technical support to engineers and production to ensure project and production goals of the organization are met.
- Suggests or implements changes that result in improved processes, products and productivity.
- Using technology tools, creates drawings, patterns and technical documentation needed to support engineering, purchasing and production.
- Reviews engineering drawings and designs to ensure adherence to established specifications and standards.
- Responsible for the programming of computer numeric controlled equipment for the production of both standard and modified product.
- Responsible to stay current with programming and technology advances within the CNC equipment environment.
- Assembles/fabricates jigs, fixtures and holding devices needed to support production.
- Ensures jigs and fixtures function appropriately with complex angles or contours. .
- Provides assistance in the review of existing and design of new manufacturing equipment, processes, and products.
- Assists in development and implementation of changes to improve process, product, efficiency, capability and yield.
- Gains or has attained full proficiency in a specific area of discipline.
- Orders new tooling, tools and equipment or repairs tools as needed.
- Inventories, stores, and distributes tooling, tools and other equipment.
- May recommend changes to improve process, product, efficiency, capability and yield.
- May troubleshoot and diagnoses product, process and equipment problems.
- Oversees and reviews the work of lower-level technicians.
- Typically requires 2-4 years of related experience, and may need 0-1 years of experience with additional specialized training and/or certification.
- Performs work under moderate supervision. Handles basic issues and problems, and refers more complex issues to higher-level staff. Possesses beginning to working knowledge of subject matter.
