Primary Purpose

  • The unit manager is responsible to provide overall direction and accountability for the care of the resident including assessment, care planning, and implementation of evaluation of Sauer Health Care.

General description

  • The RN is responsible for direct/indirect supervision of nursing staff and overall safety of the specific operations. The RN is accountable for direction, coaching and management of unit staff, regulatory compliance and care delivery to residents.

Essential Duties

  • makes daily rounds on residents and communicates with other RN’s to assess needs and follow up with plan of care. Oversees that the resident/family follow up is completed, and recommendations from other disciplines/consultants are reviewed and followed as needed and documented.
  • Actively participates in planning, organization, evaluating, and implementing of resident care plans with nursing staff and interdisciplinary team. Liaison for communication between management team physicians, consultants, resident families, and nursing staff to ensure continuity of care for residents and overall operations of Sauer Health Care.
  • Assesses resident when a significant change in condition has occurred or suspected. Oversees that physician/family contact occurs in a timely manner. Reviews order changes, recommendation follow up and appropriate documentation is completed. Actively participates in this process as needed.
  • Supervises and oversees staff for resident care, dress code, and 20% supports and enforces facility policy practice. Is responsible for initiating disciplinary action and or education for employees not following these policies.
  • Maintains confidentiality of resident related information in compliance with HIPPA regulations. Respects confidentiality of organization, department, staff, residents, and family.

Other Duties

  • The RN is aware at all times staffing is adequate for resident census. May delegate staffing reduction or replacement to maintain designated staffing levels per resident census. Will adjust nursing staff assignments when necessary to evenly distribute staff throughout facility to meet resident needs. May staff outside of established guidelines per judgment in unusual circumstances. Must provide rationale and documentation for changes.
  • The RN is responsible for overall safety of the specific operation of Sauer Health Care. The RN will consistently enforce all safety rules and ensure that safe practices are followed. In the event of an accident the RN will insure employees receives proper medical attention and that the accident report is completed. The RN will arrange for correction of unsafe work conditions and procedures.
  • The RN will actively attend and participate in care conferences and oversee that the resident screening, labs and specialist orders and recommendation from the other disciplines/consultants are ordered and completed as well as documented, reviewed, and followed as needed.
  • The RN will actively participate in all monitoring as required by federal/state regulations, physicians orders and the needs of the resident and will maintain documentation necessary to support MDS and rationale for resident care plan.
  • The RN will review and investigate incident reports for timely completion including physician and family notification, completion of the incident report with interventions is in effect and care plan is followed will refer recommendations for safety equipment to designee.
  • Presents a positive public image to residents, families, staff, physicians, and visitors. Contributes to team cohesiveness, promotes new ideas, respects peers, and creates a pleasant work atmosphere.
  • Accepts assignments in a positive manner designated by the Director of Nursing/supervisor, which may include participating in QA/QI projects, increases clinical skill competencies, in anticipation of proposed population changes.
  • Gives proper notice of tardiness or absence. Adheres to meal/break times. Uses time clock properly. Accomplishes workload within time allowed.
  • Completes the MDS per Regulations, completes the RAP’s and care plans in the designated timeline. Responsible for follow through documentation and assessments to support the MDS.
  • Attends mandatory in-service’s as required. Attends all other in-service’s as requested by department manager or administrator.
  • Other duties as assigned

Minimum Experience And Qualifications

Education: Associates in Nursing from an accredited college or university.

  • CPR Certificate
  • RN license

Experience: 3 year(s) preferred in as a registered Nurse in a long term care facility.

Schedule: This position has an expectation to regularly work 1:45pm-10:15pm within that window Monday-Friday. It may be determined or required to work weekend, holiday, or day/night hours, or assist with temporary RN floor coverage staffing needs. This position includes one holiday per year rotation.
