FTE : 1.0FTE (40 hours per week)
Schedule: M-Th: 7a-5:30 (four 10 hour days)
Holiday Rotation : No

POSITION SUMMARY :
The Medical Assistant, under the direction of the physician or other designated licensed staff, provides routine patient care in an ambulatory setting. The MA is able to work as part of a team and perform both clinical and administrative duties. Clinical duties may include taking and recording vital signs and medical histories, preparing patients for examination/procedure, sterilization of medical instruments and administering medications as directed by provider or designee. Administrative duties may include scheduling appointments, maintaining medical records, filling out insurance forms/paperwork and pre-authorizations if needed.
POSITION TECHNICAL RESPONSIBILITIES :
- Conduct assessment of patient prior to appointment including vital signs, weight, medication history and document in the chart.
- Obtain patient’s most recent labs and medical records from primary care provider.
- Download Glucometers and print blood sugar test results and insulin pumps.
- Clean and disinfect patient treatment rooms prior to and after patient visit.
- Set up referral appointments and process appropriate forms.
- Notify patients of laboratory test results ordered by provider.
- Call in medication orders to pharmacies as ordered by the provider.
- Fill out appropriate prior authorization forms as required.
- Obtain necessary referrals from providers.
- Assist clinic team with preparation for Diabetes clinic related workgroups and patient care/process improvement activity.
- Check inventory and order supplies as needed. Check items when they arrive and place in stock.
- Maintain drug samples, discard expired drugs.
POSITION REQUIREMENTS
Education:
- Required: High school graduate or equivalent

Experience:
- Required: None
- Preferred: Experience working in healthcare setting.
Licenses and Registrations:
- Required: None
- Preferred: None
Certification(s):
- Required: Basic Life Support (BLS) within 3 months of appointment
- Preferred: Certification by one of the following national examination agencies:
- Certified Medical Assistant (CMA) - American Association of Medical Assistants (AAMA); or
- Registered Medical Assistant (RMA) - American Registry of Medical Assistants (ARMA); or
- National Certified Medical Assistant (NCMA) - National Center for Competency Testing (NCCT); or
- Clinical Certified Medical Assistant (CCMA) - National Healthcare Association (NHC)
